About the Item

Antique George III era sterling silver tea caddy by renowned London silversmith, Hester Bateman, circa 1782. Simple but elegant tea caddy by Hester Bateman, known as the "Queen of Silversmiths." Oval form with stepped design hinged lid featuring a finial lid topper. The caddy is edged in a thin banded design at the top and bottom. Lid does not close tightly. Hallmark dates this piece to 1782. Measures approx 6" high to top of finial, 3 3/4" high to top of the body of the caddy, 5 1/4" wide. Opening measures approx 3 1/2" x 5 1/4". Weighs approx 404g, 260dwt, 13toz. Fully hallmarked on bottom with g (date mark for 1782) HB (Hester Bateman makers mark) leopard (London city mark) lion (sterling) Nice antique condition, there is some tarnish and significant discoloration around the lock hole (see photo), some scratches and small dents, and discoloration on the interior of the piece. Overall beautiful for an over 225 year old piece. Will be shipped US Priority Mail with insurance.
