A fine matched pair of English 18th century tea caddies. In sterling silver. Marked for Francis Crump, London, and 1758. Having central cartouches bearing an engraved heraldic banner with scallop shells, slightly lobed bodies with a left hand twist, repoussé vines, and floral devices throughout. Supported by a pierced rocaille feet and surmounted by shaped lids with floral finials. Simply a superb pair of George III silver tea caddies from one the Period's premier Silversmiths! Date: 1758 Overall Condition: They are in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition with some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Maker: Francis Crump Marks: Marked to the neck of each caddy (covered by the lid) with an "F.C" Francis Crump's maker's mark, passant lion for sterling, crowned leopard for London, and a C for 1758. A magnificent, fine and impressive pair of antique Georgian English sterling silver tea caddies - boxed; an addition to our silver teaware collection These magnificent, fine and impressive antique Georgian silver tea caddies each have an oblong, bomb shaped form. The surface of each antique tea caddy is embellished with impressive chased and embossed scrolling floral and foliate decoration, incorporating paralleling undulating borders framing each side. The decoration to the body of each incorporates two cartouches, one displaying the contemporary engraved coat of arms depicting an oval escutcheon supported by a savage and a greyhound collared and chained, displaying firstly a stag's head and secondly three bars below three roundels. The coat of arms bears the motto 'Data fata secutus' - Following the destiny allotted to me*. These heraldic markings are surmounted with the crest of a mountain in flames, surmounted with the motto 'Luceo non uro' - I shine, not burn*.
