Pekka Piekäinen, was also a watchmaker by training, but he worked especially as a respected silversmith. At a young age, he learned from his father's workshop and from the well-known Russian goldsmith Boris Sarvala. Pekka Piekäinen received the state award for the art industry in 1980 and was elected Goldsmith of the Year in 2002. Pekka is especially known for his elegant silver work. He became known for his peculiar form language and for the pure and clear forms into which he drew his ideas about nature and the everyday world around life. While working as the chief designer of Auran Kultaseppä Oy in 1971-1989, Pekka Piekäinen's jewelery was sold in stores around the world, for example in London, New York, Tokyo and Paris. He was also the only Nordic designer whose jewelry was sold by the famous Tiffany. During his career, Pekka designed jewelry for numerous public figures. "The unshakable expediency of nature is the best gift for the designer. Every form is justified - it has a purpose." Piekäinen did not imitate nature, but he tried to understand it and that understanding was transferred to his work. Piekäinen worked as the chief designer of Auran Kultaseppä Oy in 1971-1989. Piekäinen received the State Arts and Crafts Award in 1979. Piekäinen founded his own company PlatinOro Oy in 1991. In electing Pekka Piekäinen as the Goldsmith of the Year in 2002, the Finnish Association of Goldsmiths emphasized Piekäinen's reputation as an artist both domestically and internationally. During his career, Piekäinen has designed jewelry watch collections, e.g. For Omega and Tissot. Piekäinen's handprint can be seen in the corporate gifts of several large Finnish companies. Pekka Piekäinen's life's work has survived forever!
