About the Item

A fine pair of Mexican Modernist sterling silver salt & pepper shakers. By Antonio Pineda. With a blocky, stepped Modernist design. Pineda (1919 - 2009) was one of the foremost silversmiths of the 20th Century in the silver mecca of Taxco, Mexico. He apprenticed for William Spratling & Valentin Vidauretta before opening his own workshop in 1939. Pineda had a meteoric rise after his work's inclusion in a 1944 exhibition in California attracted international attention. Pineda would go on to obtain multiple partnerships with various retailers across North America, host exhibitions of his work across the globe, and even add sculpture to his repertoire. Simply top shelf examples from one of Mexico's master silversmiths! Date: Mid-20th Century Overall Condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition. Condition Details: There is some light edge wear, some very fine and light indentions here & there, some light surface scratches (especially to the base) and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age.
