Il vassoio Taj, un pezzo iconico in cui concavità e convessità coesistono nello stesso oggetto.
Un elemento di design prodotto in edizione limitata.
Il "Cesto Taj", così fu chiamato da Gabriele De Vecchi nel 1990, appartiene alla famiglia degli specchi curvi e deformati per ottenere la restituzione di un processo di immagini riflesse distorte e mobili in rapporto al movimento tra chi guarda, usa e si muove attorno all’oggetto concreto.
Pensato in un primo tempo come vassoio centro tavola dove le zone concave diventano contenitori e allo stesso tempo supporti di stabilità dall'altro lato, diviene una vera e propria scultura, un'opera d'appendere, un quadro riflettente.
L’argento è uno specchio. Le immagini dell’ambiente si riflettono sulla superficie dell’oggetto, rendendo ambigua la percezione della forma. Progettare l’argento non significa semplicemente progettare una forma, ma un supporto per le immagini riflesse, in grado di liberare l’infinita e imprevedibile ricchezza espressiva del materiale.
De Vecchi per anni ha innovato la tradizione dell’argento, attraverso la creazione di un proprio linguaggio progettuale, basato sulle caratteristiche riflettenti del materiale.
Sono nati negli anni oggetti che riflettono la luce, riflettono l’ambiente circostante, così che il succedersi delle immagini speculari rende gli oggetti mobili, in continua variazione.
Gli oltre ottant’anni di attività sono costellati di riconoscimenti; dai premi alla Triennale di Milano, alle segnalazioni al Compasso d’Oro. De Vecchi ha preso parte alle più importanti esposizioni e rassegne sul design in Italia e all’estero. Nel 1997 una grande mostra monografica alla Triennale di Milano intitolata ‘La lingua degli Specchi’ ha ricostruito l’attività di ricerca dell’azienda e dei suoi protagonisti.
Il laboratorio argentiero, l’Atelier De Vecchi, fu fondato da Piero De Vecchi nel 1935. Scultore e incisore, in giovane età prese parte al Futurismo del quale condivideva la costante ricerca del dinamismo che trasmise nella sua produzione.
Le sue opere furono esposte nei più importanti musei nazionali e Internazionali: dalla Triennale di Milano al Moma di New York, che gli conferì il Diploma d’onore per un Thermos in alluminio, un “Servizio da picnic” in alluminio e per il candelabro in argento T8. Con il T8 Piero De Vecchi cambia completamente la struttura classica di un candelabro: un unico elemento che si snoda in una forma fluida nello spazio.
Nel 1962 il figlio Gabriele, succedette al padre alla guida dell’azienda “dentro all’argento”. Da allora Gabriele trasferì all’interno dell’argento le astuzie e i rigori della ricerca sulle qualità riflettenti di questo materiale, studiando il rapporto fra oggetto e ambiente, ciò che portò alla creazione di quello stile De Vecchi oggi riconosciuto e apprezzato in tutto il mondo.
Nel 2010 De Vecchi è stata acquisita dall’azienda di gioielli Vhernier, nata
a Valenza, la quale condivide con De Vecchi lo stesso amore per la progettazione, la più alta qualità italiana e l’artigianalità.
A Maggio del 2024 il gruppo del lusso Richemont acquista la Maison Vhernier; De Vecchi Milano 1935 dovrebbe essere quindi ora nel gruppo di J. Rupert.
2025 una data importante, De Vecchi Milano 1935 compie 80 anni.
