About the Item

Crafted during the reign of George II, this sterling silver footed bowl was manufactured by London silversmith John Barbe. The small footed bowl is almost entirely without ornamentation and could be described as being similar to a Paul Revere bowl, despite his designs being made in the United States during the 18th Century and this piece being from Georgian England. The piece has crisp hallmarks for manufacture in 1760 which is the year George II died, and George III succeeded. The silversmith John Barbe was noted to have produced silver in London from 1741-1769. The piece has no monograms or engravings which is somewhat unusual for a piece from the Georgian era. A lovely simple piece which is in fine antique condition for an object that is over 250 years of age. Marked - London hallmarks for 1760 & John Barbe maker's mark Measures - 12cm D Total weight of piece - 168 grams
