About the Item

A very fine pair of Victorian sterling silver salt cellars. By Hunt & Roskell - the successors to Storr, Mortimer, and Hunt. With scrolled feet, lobed bodies, and a ribbed rim. Simply a very well smithed pair of salt cellars by important makers! Date: 1847 Overall Condition: They are in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition with some light dings or indentations, some noticeable edge wear, some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Condition Details: One interior seam to one bowl is open. Two seams appear to have lead solder repairs. Some over polishing is noticeable to the top rim as well as to the crests. Engraved: The remainders of a family crest are visible to each. Maker: Hunt & Roskell Marks: Marked Hunt & Roskell - Late Starr, Moritmer, & Hunt / with hallmarks for London, Sterling, and 1847 / ISH under crown / 3422. Measurements: Each: Height: ca. 1 7/8 in.
