Today's offering showcases this Omega Seamaster De Ville with caliber 550 movement in all original condition. The Seamaster DeVille, showcasing both refinement and high function, was the most important Omega line from a sales perspective in the latter part of the 1960's into the 1970's. It featured a monocoque - or one piece - case which insured water resistance and a slim, elegant profile. Powering the watch is Omega's top-tier caliber 550 movement, and one of the superior 500's series movements used before Omega began trying to reduce their costs. Arguably the finest mass-produced automatic movement from the era, despite the appreciation it receives it too remains not yet fully appreciated. The case measures 34mm in diameter without the crown, the diameter of a Rolex Date watch. The dial has vintage styled baton markers and with more highly stylized markers at three, six, nine, and 12 o'clock. Its subtle yet distinctive, geometric element gives the watch a mid-century modern feel, reminiscent of the architecture and design of the era. We are pleased to offer it in all-original condition. Its case is in excellent condition with only very light wear. The case top and lugs appear never to have been polished with strong lines. Its untouched original dial is just short of perfect mint with one short hairline. One of our Master Watchmakers has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation. It is keeping extremely accurate time on par with new Omega in testing recording position. For the finishing touch, we have equipped it with a brand new distressed vintage style leather strap and aftermarket Omega buckle making it ready for immediate enjoyment. Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function, a full-page custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate. It’s a celebrated part of Omega lore that the brand’s Speedmaster Professional Chronograph was the first watch to make a lunar landing. But the universal love for vintage Omega watches isn't confined to astronomers, and there’s more to the company’s heritage than the story of the Moonwatch.

The house’s origins date to 1848, when Swiss watchmaker Louis Brandt first set up shop. His sons Louis-Paul and César took over after his death, and in 1894, the pair developed an intriguing new movement.

Not only was it highly accurate, but every part was replaceable, making it easy for any professional to service. The Brandts called their movement the Omega, and as its popularity spread, they changed their company’s name to that of its flagship product.

In 1917, the British Royal Flying Corps designated Omega as an official supplier, and during World War II it became the principal watch supplier for the British forces and their allies. These commissions further strengthened Omega’s commitment to ensuring its products’ reliability under extreme conditions. In 1948, it launched the versatile Seamaster. Thanks in part to its rugged reputation and Omega’s links to the British military, it became James Bond’s watch of choice in 1995, appearing in GoldenEye and every succeeding Bond movie; it returned in 2021’s No Time to Die. Nevertheless, the most famous Omega by far is the Speedmaster, introduced in 1957. The first chronograph to display its tachymeter scale on the bezel instead of the dial for easier readability, it was quickly adopted by engineers and scientists.

Worn by Buzz Aldrin during the 1969 Apollo 11 lunar mission, it’s the only watch certified by NASA for extravehicular activity (space walks) — and, as far as we know, the only one approved by the Russian space agency, too.
