LIFETIME SERVICE COMMITMENT This is one of the most impressive wrist watches I have ever owned. Firstly, it is classically styled as a cushion shape with elegant lugs and profile. The movement is entirely hand made by E. Koehn under the label of H.R. Ekegren. Ekegren was a renowned Danish watchmaker in business from the 1820’s to late 1890's. He was the watchmaker to the king of Denmark and also worked for such premier houses as Jorgensen, A. Golay as well as Lange. He moved to Geneva in the late 1850’s and set up his own factory there. E. Koehn worked for Patek Philippe in Geneva as a designer and director in their factory where he likely met with Ekegren. In the early 1890’s Edouard Koehn took over the H.R. Ekegren Company and kept Ekegren on as the head designer. Speculation is that Ekegren just wanted to design watches as that was his gift and he was getting older and Koehn wanted to do more marketing of the product. It was a good match. Ekegren died around 1896 and Edouard Koehn took over the business. He ran it successfully until his death when his son also an Edouard took over the firm in 1908. Similar to the “Ruth’s" Chris Steak House, the Koehn, Ekegren series was their flagship model. They also made watches under their own name, E. Koehn which were marketed as a less expensive line. The Ekegren line was produced to the finest standards and easily matched the level of a Patek Philippe. Edouard the son also ran the firm successfully until the mid 1930’s when they closed as result of a world wide or “Great Depression.” This piece likely made in the mid 1920’s has the added cache of having an original H. Stern & Frère's dial. H. Stern was the premier dial maker in Switzerland; all the major houses had their dials done by Stern. This dial, done in Sterling Silver has its numbers kiln fired in a furnace at 1500 Fahrenheit. This was highest level of dial making in the world. In the early 1930’s Patek Philippe filed for bankruptcy and Stern purchased the company. To this day the Patek Philippe Watch Company is still owned by the Stern family. The watch is entirely original; however, we have “washed” off the radioactive material on the dial and replaced it with a luminescence paste… for your protection.
