Walkman
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
The painting is about a brand of popular portable audio players manufactured and marketed by Sony since 1979. The original Walkman was a portable cassette player and its popularity made "Walkman" an unofficial term for personal stereos of any producer or brand. By 2010, when production stopped, Sony had built about 200 million cassette-based Walkmans. The Walkman brand was extended to serve most of Sony's portable audio devices, including DAT players, MiniDisc players/recorders, CD players (originally Discman then renamed the CD Walkman), transistor radios, mobile phones, and digital audio/media players. Ilori 2 (Heavy)
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
The title itself, "ÌLÒRÍ," holds a special meaning, as the artist reveals it is a name given to a child who finds its way into their mother's belly while she is still breastfeeding another child. This unique and touching term encapsulates the interconnectedness of life, illustrating how love and new beginnings can emerge even in the midst of existing responsibilities. Adebayo's artwork appears to be a reflection on her personal journey and the story of her birth. She shares how her mother affectionately calls her "ÌLÒRÍ" and playfully recounts the amusing moments when she questions her conception. The artist playfully suggests that she jokingly implores her mother to use protection, a humorous remark that adds a light-hearted touch to the piece. The openness and candor with which Adebayo communicates her personal story add authenticity and vulnerability to the artwork, drawing viewers into her emotional world. The central theme of the artwork revolves around family, particularly the artist's late brother who was just nine months old at the time of her conception. Through her words, "I Miss you bro and happy mother's month. Your struggle is noticed," Adebayo honors her sibling's memory and acknowledges the sacrifices her mother made as a parent. The metaphorical use of the phrase "coconut head" suggests a sense of stubbornness, perhaps referring to the artist's own determination to enter this world despite the odds. This resilient spirit symbolizes the strength of the human will and the innate desire to live, even against all odds. It is a testament to the power of life and the profound connection between siblings, even those who have never met. "ÌLÒRÍ" is more than just a visual artwork; it is a story of life, love, and the unbreakable ties that bind families together. Janet Adebayo...

His posture exudes a sense of confidence, suggesting that he is ready to take on the challenges that lie ahead. The colorful background serves as a reflection of the boy's optimistic outlook, emphasizing his excitement for the adventures awaiting him within the classroom. Damsel
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
"Damsel" is a work of art that immediately draws the viewer's attention to the glorious charm of the woman at its center. Adewale's portrayal of her low-cut hairstyle is a powerful statement that challenges conventional norms of beauty. With her hair styled so boldly, the subject exudes a sense of self-assuredness, breaking free from societal expectations and embracing her uniqueness. The woman's choice of a vibrant yellow dress further reinforces the celebration of feminine allure. Yellow, a color often associated with happiness and positivity, complements the woman's radiance, illuminating the canvas with her inner glow. This striking hue symbolizes her inner strength and vibrant spirit, echoing the confidence and dynamism that emanate from her presence. The blue background, in contrast, serves as a calming and harmonious setting, providing a perfect backdrop for the woman's portrayal. As we gaze upon the woman in "Damsel," we become participants in this celebration of femininity. Adewale invites us to appreciate and honor the beauty that exists within all women, encouraging us to recognize and celebrate the allure that each woman carries in her own unique way. In its essence, "Damsel" is a testament to the empowering nature of art. It breaks away from conventional stereotypes and standard definitions of beauty, presenting a woman who embraces her identity unapologetically. The artwork's appeal lies not only in its visual aesthetics but also in the powerful message it conveys to society, urging us to appreciate and cherish the diverse expressions of feminine charm. I Expect
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
"I Expect," serves as a potent invitation to dive into the narrative within the frame. The image of a young woman, dressed in jewelry that exudes elegance and sophistication, immediately captures the eye. Her adornments—exquisite earrings and a white necklace—hint at a longing for beauty, meaning, or something more profound. These symbols of refinement and grace offer a glimpse into the desires that lie within the heart of every individual. Especially intriguing is the phrase that accompanies the artwork: "What is it you've been waiting for all these while? It's natural for humans to want more out of life. Being in expectation is evidence of hope...." These words shed light on the artist's intention, inviting viewers to consider the motivations behind their own anticipations and yearnings. The choice of earrings and a necklace as accessories in the artwork symbolizes the pursuit of both material and intangible desires—perhaps success, love, fulfillment, or personal growth. Journey of Love
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
The central theme of "Journey of Love" revolves around the feeling of uncertainty that often accompanies the onset of a romantic relationship between two young people. As we gaze at the artwork, we witness the subtle apprehension in their eyes and body language, hinting at the initial hesitancy that comes with opening one's heart to another. Adewale beautifully captures the vulnerability of these young souls, making it evident that they are navigating uncharted waters, unsure of what the future may hold for their budding connection. The woman, almost positioned in front of the young man, symbolizes her subtle dominance in the relationship. This arrangement not only suggests her strength and independence but also highlights the significance of women in guiding the course of love. The painting subtly challenges traditional gender norms, emphasizing the equal partnership and influence both individuals have in shaping their shared journey. Moreover, "Journey of Love" doesn't shy away from portraying the doubts and fears that can plague the minds of those in the early stages of a relationship. The artist masterfully captures the subtle tension in their clasped hands, portraying the emotional tightrope that they walk together. This poignant aspect of the artwork resonates deeply with viewers who have experienced the vulnerability and anxiety that come hand in hand with falling in love. However, amidst the uncertainty and challenges depicted, Adewale's artwork also showcases the hope that drives these young hearts forward. In the gentle smiles and the glimmer of optimism in their eyes, we see the belief in the magic of love, the idea that their journey will be one of shared joy and personal growth. It is precisely this hope that allows them to face the challenges head-on and continue on their path despite the unknown future. The journey of love, as depicted in the artwork, is not without its trials and tribulations. Adewale subtly incorporates various elements in the background, such as swirling winds and turbulent skies, as metaphors for the external forces that may try to sway their commitment. The young couple's ability to withstand these challenges and remain standing together is a testament to the strength of their bond. As viewers immerse themselves in the layers of the "Journey of Love," they cannot help but reflect on their own experiences with love and relationships. The artwork becomes a mirror that allows them to ponder the uncertainties they have faced, the doubts they have battled, and the triumphant moments that have shaped their romantic endeavors. "Woman in Blue” Oil Painting 53" x 27.5" inch by Katherine Bakhoum Tisné
By Katherine Bakhoum-Tisné
Located in Culver City, CA
"Woman in Blue” Oil Painting 53" x 27.5" inch by Katherine Bakhoum Tisné Katherine Bakhoum represents art that has been forgotten for a long while. She draws upon the concept and the subject of the orientalism and the enchantment of that period. Through her work we can feel the researches she has done to reveal her Egyptian origins and the magic and power of the bygone times. Katherine Bakhoum has succeeded in imprinting her own stamp to evoke a new world full of charm, nostalgia and magic that is deeply implanted in her canvas. Her power dwells in creating her own style of contemporary expressionism building upon the old orientalism. Katherine Bakhoum’s art comes up out of an Egyptian childhood and from the distance of a life spent in France. What is left unsaid is as important as what is shown. Decorative yes, as in old orientalism, when everything was texture and what wasn’t texture was veiled, a reincarnation of old spirits, dervishes, orientalist motifs and the stuff of a once powerful civilization, the better to suggest it all might just come to life again. The choice of ancient subject matters, the echo of orientalist pieces in the collages, like the echo of the appeal of ancient gestures, of foreign lands, and domestic tapestries, all this weaves up out of Katherine Bakhoum’s creations. Sometimes we only have the line of a horizon on which to hang our imagination, sometimes we only have the trace of a profile in the shadows. What we always have is a persistent belief in beauty. Where there is beauty, there is hope. Katherine Bakhoum has abandoned neither. Neglected Stone
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
"Neglected Stone" serves as a poignant metaphor for the potential found within damaged individuals who emerge from underprivileged backgrounds to shine as stars in society. The young man in the artwork embodies the spirit of those who have faced adversity, yet refused to be defined by it. Just as a neglected stone can become the cornerstone of a grand structure, so too can those who have experienced hardship rise above their circumstances to become pillars of strength and inspiration. The brown hat worn by the young man symbolizes the trials and struggles he has encountered throughout his life. It represents the weight of his past, the challenges that threatened to overshadow his potential. However, the hat also serves as a testament to his resilience—the ability to bear the weight of his history while moving forward with determination. Against the backdrop of a vibrant blue, the artwork accentuates the stark contrast between the young man's journey and the potential that lies ahead. Blue, often associated with serenity and tranquility, represents a world of possibilities and a bright future. The blue background serves as a reminder that even amidst difficulties, hope and opportunity can emerge, paving the way for greatness to shine forth. Adewale's artwork eloquently conveys the message that great beauty and strength can emerge from the depths of misfortune. Just as a diamond is formed under immense pressure, so too can individuals forged in the crucible of hardship display a brilliance that defies all odds. The young man in "Neglected Stone" epitomizes the triumph of the human spirit, illustrating that a resilient heart can overcome even the most adverse circumstances. Moreover, the artwork serves as a poignant admonition to society not to write off anyone passing through hard times as totally useless. It is a call for compassion, understanding, and the acknowledgment that every individual has the potential for greatness, regardless of their past or current circumstances. By showcasing the young man's fortitude and determination, Adewale invites viewers to reflect on their own preconceptions and biases, urging them to see beyond the surface and recognize the inherent worth and potential in every human being. In conclusion, "Neglected Stone" by Busari Adewale...

Cloaks 3: Expose
By Victor Anachuna
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
Cloaks 3: Expose" is a poignant and powerful artwork that speaks to the issue of oppression, marginalization, and societal judgment. The painting features a figure draped in a cloak, standing, and pointing. The cloak in the painting represents the societal pressure to conform, and the figure represents the consequences of not conforming. The artwork is a reminder of the power of societal judgment and the role it plays in oppressing those who do not conform. The figure's stance and body language convey a sense of defeat and shame, reflecting the psychological and emotional toll that comes with societal judgment. The impact of societal norms and the fear of rejection that comes with not conforming. The painting is not just a representation of oppression and societal pressure, but it is also an example of artistic excellence. The intricate details of the cloak, the figure, and the crowd demonstrate the artist's mastery of the craft. The use of light and shadow is also exemplary, creating a sense of depth and emotion that draws the viewer into the painting. Moreover, the painting is a call to action, urging us to challenge societal norms and expectations that oppress and marginalize individuals. It is a call for empathy, compassion, and understanding, and a reminder that everyone deserves to be accepted and loved for who they are, regardless of whether they conform to societal norms or not. Desires 1
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
The painting titled "Desires 1" is a beautiful work of art that depicts two women sitting across from each other, engaged in what seems to be a deep and meaningful conversation. The painting, created by Esinulo Chiamaka Praise, features an older woman and a younger woman, each holding a white flower, which adds a sense of purity and serenity to the scene. The older woman, who appears to be in his 50s, and the younger woman, who looks to be in his 20s, are both dressed in a more simple dress. Both women are seated on chairs, with their faces turned towards each other in a relaxed yet focused manner. The title of the painting, "Desires 1," adds an element of intrigue and mystery to the scene, as it hints at the possibility of underlying desires and motivations between the two women. However, the painting does not provide any clear answers or indications of what those desires might be, leaving the interpretation up to the viewer. Wisdom is gathered from lessons learned from experiences. Time and age guide a man through life as regards choices or wants... One possible interpretation of the painting is that it represents the passing of knowledge and wisdom from one generation to the next. The older woman appears to be sharing something with the younger woman, who listens intently and respectfully. The white flowers that both women are holding could be seen as symbols of purity and innocence, representing the purity of the knowledge and wisdom being shared. What you want today may not be what you would want tomorrow, wants change with time. Experiences and age have an influence on choices. Responsibilities are given with time. What is your desire now? Another interpretation of the painting is that it represents a deep and meaningful conversation between two people who share a close and intimate relationship. The fact that both women are holding white flowers suggests a sense of purity and love between them, while their relaxed and focused expressions indicate a sense of comfort and ease in each other's presence. In terms of technique, the painting is expertly executed, with rich colors and intricate details that bring the scene to life. Keating's use of light and shadow creates a sense of depth and dimensionality, while the placement of the two men in the center of the painting draws the viewer's attention to their faces and the emotions that are portrayed in them. Overall, "Desires 3" is a beautiful and thought-provoking painting that captures the essence of a deep and meaningful conversation between two people. It is a testament to the power of art to evoke emotion and inspire reflection, leaving the viewer with a sense of curiosity and wonder about the motivations and desires of the two women in the painting. To lead a happy, fulfilled life there is two simultaneous truth that is critical for us to remember. The first is that we are gods. Vastly powerful gods invent their lives in this scented carousel of dreams and intense wonders. The second is that we are nothing. Bellow all significance, a speck within a speck of dust, alive for a spark of time, winking out and gone. When we forget either one of these perspectives, we are lost.
