Carlos J. Tirado (born on April 3, 1964 in Caracas, Venezuela) is an artist, painter and sculptor who has developed a very personal and precise line of work linked to Neo-Pop art. With plenty of personal art exhibitions, Tirado has participated in numerous collective exhibitions, receiving different awards such as “III Premio de Escultura” del Certamen Aires de Córdoba in 2004 and other recognitions, among them, at the Venezuelan Embassy in DC (2005), and the X Latin Art Festival of Atlanta (2005).
Childhood
Tirado grew up in an upper-middle-class family environment. His inclination for the arts started from an early age. At 8 years old, he was already experimenting with tridimensional forms, creating molds out of cast lead from pieces previously gathered on the streets. These first artistic experiences led by his inquisitive nature, provided the ground to continue exploring the possibilities with different materials like wood, waste and plaster. His childhood games were centered around painting and sculpting, which played an important role that ranged from recreational to aesthetics.
When Tirado turned 12 years of age, his parents agreed for him to attend private art classes with professor Javier Hernandez in Caracas. Later on, he realized that Art was a profession that required investment in materials, reason that led him to work at a furniture store painting landscapes and figurative art to decorate the exhibit room. In Thornton Dial's assemblage, masklike faces with staring eyes and open mouths emerge from a dense maze of layers streaked in red, white, blue, and black. Ropes painted brown snake over the surface, twisting into bodies that stretch from one side of the painting to the other. Additional objects have been attached to the surface—a paint-covered metal grill at the top and a wire rack on the right edge, for example—which accentuate the artwork's sculptural appearance. The resulting lattice of colors, forms, and objects gives the impression that, if the artwork's strata were excavated, much more could be discovered.
In many respects, "excavation" is an appropriate way to approach Top of the Line (Steel).By layering paint and objects that Dial collects from around his home in Bessemer, Alabama, a suburb of Birmingham, the artist creates a series of evocative relationships. Dial encourages viewers to look closely at the artwork, excavating meaning from the interplay of forms and even from the title, which has several interpretations. Peter Essick is a photographer, author and drone pilot who specializes in nature and environmental themes. His latest series, "Memorial Drive," documents the thoroughfare that stretches between the Georgia State Capitol and the Confederate monument at Stone Mountain. Originally known as East Fair Street, Memorial Drive was one of the first roads in Atlanta, and connected the downtown commercial districts to the residential neighborhoods of East Lake and Kirkwood. In 1930, it was expanded all the way to Memorial Hall in Stone Mountain Park with the use of convict labor. The now 15-mile-long thoroughfare took on a new symbolic meaning to physically connect the State Capitol with the Confederate monument at Stone Mountain. According to an article in The Atlanta Constitution on February 2, 1930, Memorial Drive was “another step in the effort of Atlanta and Georgia to honor the memory of the heroes of the confederacy.”
In the years since, Memorial Drive has acquired even more history. The street passes through communities of a wide diversity of people. These neighborhoods have seen cycles of development, economic decline, redevelopment and in some recent cases complete gentrification. People from all over the world as well as those from just across town have come to live and work on or near Memorial Drive. The street’s story is complex and of interest not only to developers and realtors, but also urban planners, sociologists, community activists, business owners, residents and even artists. Peter used a drone to take many of the photographs in the series, using a survey approach, he hopes to peak a viewers’ interest with the wide array of subjects.

She worked for advertising agencies and freelance art projects such as theater design and t-shirt designs for several companies. She owned and operated an art studio (“Artistic Endeavors”) in Melbourne, Fl. for five years. She started doing murals and embellishments (residential and commercial) from 1992 till present. She considers her early life in Europe the major source of her artistic influence as well as the works of Modigliani.
Eric was born in Missouri in 1950. He started drawing literally as an infant and has never stopped. He was taking commissions for book covers & wall designs in his teens and studied art at Auburn University and The University of Alabama. He taught art in public schools in Alabama in the ‘70s. He worked as art director at Huntsville Educational Television for 6 years, as art director at Southern Sportswear in Daytona for 9 years, at Creative Signs & Designs in Flagler, Fl. for 6 years, and as a freelance artist and co-owner (with his wife Helene) of “BessStudio” (formerly “Artistic Innovations Inc.”) since 1998.
