Alan DERRICKHialeah Hurricane
About the Item
With each feather, Alan Derrick has moved his art form into new expressions. He continues to experiment with each stage of the process, producing surprising sculptures that are modern yet timeless and phenomenally beautiful. As one admirer notes, “I’ll never look at a feather or a piece of metal the same way again, Alan Derrick has transformed them both.”
The idea of the simple bird feather as his subject came to Derrick while on one of his frequent mountain hikes. “I am amazed with the beauty of nature’s kaleidoscope of color and its three dimensional, often asymmetrical shapes. These characteristics are displayed in each and every feather you will ever find. Feathers are so simple and yet so diverse. My options are limited only by my chosen medium of steel and paint,”
He takes great pride in having mastered this single subject.
