Born in 1975, Saratov, Russia, Ekaterina Ermilkina now lives and works in New Jersey. She grew up in the beautiful city of Yalta in Crimea on the North coast of the Black Sea, where in 1985 she enrolled as a student to the School of Art of F.Vasiliev, graduating in 1991. After her first introduction to fine art in Yalta, in 1992, Ekaterina Ermilkina moved to Saint-Petersburg, Russia. In 1998 she received her MFA from State Art and Industry Academy. The unique beauty and rich culture of the city inspired her to paint cityscapes. In late 2005, Ermilkina moved to the U.S. Her works has been presented in various solo and group exhibitions in international galleries and art fairs and have been collected throughout the United States, as well as Canada, Germany, France, Switzerland, Japan, Hong Kong, and Russia. Her artworks pop with color and motion, casting a candied haze across the urban landscape. “I am focused on art all my life. It makes me optimistic, full of energy and happy. The vivid colors of Crimea where I grew up, the beautiful marine of the Black Sea, inspired me to paint for the rest of my life. The oldest European buildings in China are along the once curved crescent shore of the Praya Grande, where the Portuguese explorers established and fortified their trading foothold with an entire continent. When they arrived in 1553, this small fishing village overlooked by a temple to an ocean goddess immediately became an important cultural center of the world and the stage for initial interactions between the East and West. Ever since, this port has played a role in the cosmopolitan course of world trade. (The harbor is extensively filled in and built upon today.) In this view, more than 300 years after the Dutch established contact in the early 17th Century and western ships first sailed in the harbor, a British Sidewheel Steamer is in the port of Macao, surrounded by more than 20 Chinese vessels. This artwork titled "People of the Village" c.1980, is an oil painting on canvas by Hungarian artist Anton Kowalski, b.1926. It is signed at the lower right corner by the artist. The canvas size is 21 x 24 inches, framed size is 26.5 x 30.5 inches. Framed in original dark wood and green frame, with fabric liner. It is in excellent condition. About the artist: The artist was born in Sopron in Hungary in 1926. He was a student of the Academy of Budapest and during the uprising in 1956 against Communism he escaped from Hungary to Vienna where he now lives and works. He has become internationally known for his (typically East European style) “Naive” paintings depicting Village life in the four seasons in glorious color. Children especially like his works as each one tells a story. He has exhibited in many Galleries throughout Europe, particularly in Munich, Vienna, Tokyo, and Harrods in London.
