Tranquility
By Itzchak Tarkay
Located in Fairfield, CT
Artist: Itzchak Tarkay (1935-2012) Title: Tranquility Year: Circa 2000 Medium: Silkscreen on wove paper Size: 13.5 x 11.5 inches Edition: 455/750, plus 100 Remarques Condition: Excellent Inscription: Signed in crayon & numbered in ink ITZHAK TARKAY (1935-2012) Itzhak Tarkay has achieved international recognition as a leading representative of figurative artists. The inspiration for his work clearly lies with French Impressionism, particularly the paintings of Matisse and the drawing style of Toulouse-Lautrec. He drew upon the history of art to create many of his compositions, designing a kind of visual poetry from the aura of his cafes and intimate settings. His rich tapestry of form and color is achieved through the use of painting many colors laid over one another to create texture and transparency. Tarkay is considered one of the most influential artists of the early 21st century and has inspired dozens of artists throughout the world with his contemplative depiction of the female figure. 19th century British portrait of Sir Charles Dickens seated in an interior
By Daniel Maclise
Located in Woodbury, CT
Well painted 19th-century portrait of Sir Charles Dickens. The original painting is in the National Gallery in London and I'm sure this piece would have been painted by a fan of the author who was also a very good artist as this piece is a very good copy of the original painting. There was a great fashion to paint copies of famous paintings during the 19th century and most of the world's most famous paintings have been copied many times. Often the artist who does the copy is very talented but usually anonymous With this piece, it's the only way to own an antique copy...

Unframed Hand Painted Life History of Buddha Thangka on Canvas with 24K Gold
Located in TRUMBULL, CT
Thangka painting dates back to 7th century after Buddhism was spread in the Himalayan region (Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet and Northern India). In Eastern world Thangka is considered to be a part of Abhi-Dharma which means "The Art of Enlightenment". It is a scroll painting on canvas. Over the centuries Thangkas gradually acquired the status of collectible fine art from a purely spiritual art. Due to international museum shows and popularity of Buddhism Thangkas in particular are gaining a place on the art world's radar screen. The beauty and power of these intricate paintings are strong enough to stand up aesthetically for any viewer. The thangka painting of the Life of Buddha narrates the most relevant episodes of the life of Siddhartha known as the “Twelve Great Deeds of Buddha”. Life of Buddha Thangka Paintings are not just a mere illustration of the main episodes of the historical Siddhartha and his progress towards the achievement of spiritual enlightenment. They are considered to be a visual representation of several philosophical aspects of the esoteric Buddhism...

The Master Smith
By James Abbott McNeill Whistler
Located in Storrs, CT

The Master Smith. 1895. Lithograph. Way 84; Levy 123; Tedeschi, Stratis and Spink 120.i/ii. 4 1/2 x 5 1/2 (sheet 76 x 5 3/8). Only 15 lifetime impressions (in 2 states) were listed by Way; Goulding printed 38 impressions on 14 December 1903. The stone was erased in 1903. Printed on cream wove proofing paper. Monogrammed with the butterfly in the stone. A fine impression of this extremely rare lithograph.

Tedeschi, Stratis, and Spink write, page 366: As originally transferred to stone, the image includes trial marks made with a pointed crayon to the left of the sitter's shoulder. There is also a smudge at lower right below the image and a small stry mark upper right. Only one impression of this state has been located. Now in the Britigh Museum, London, it once belonged to Thomas Way and is illustrated in the Levy (1975) catalogue.' The impression illustrated above lacks the stray mark on the right, as the sheet is too small to accommodate it.

Tedeschi, Stratis and Spink write, page 366: 'This portrait of George Govier, was drawn ad the master smith conversed with the artist during a break from his work. Govier was born in Lyme Regis...
