View of the Grand Canal, a painting by William James, after Canaletto
By William James
Located in PARIS, FR
Although we have little bibliographical information on William James, we know that he was trained by Canaletto during the painter's stay in England between 1746 and 1755. Although he may never have been to Venice, William James remained under the influence of his master for a long time and became known for his paintings inspired by Canaletto's artworks.
In this painting, William James is inspired by one of the twelve views of the Grand Canal painted by Canaletto for Joseph Smith, or more precisely by the engraving made by Antonio Visentini in 1735 after this painting. He delivers a very personal version, vibrant with colours, in which he brilliantly reproduces the moving surface of the sea, animated by the ever-changing traffic of the gondolas.

"Through the Clouds: The Magic of Stories in the Heavenly Realm" Oil on cardboard
In this oil landscape painting, we immerse ourselves in the wondrous world of the sky and experience the emotional impact of its colors. The composition is dominated by a cloud that swiftly ascends towards the heights, touching the beautiful blue expanse above. The cloud becomes the protagonist and storyteller of this artwork, reflecting everything hidden beyond the horizon. The viewer, without seeing or knowing what lies beyond that horizon, completes the picture in their imagination, envisioning forests, lakes, and other enigmatic shapes concealed within the cloud's reflections.
The cloud serves as a portal to a realm of fantasies and dreams, where the viewer can soar high above the cloud...

Mountain landscape with a village. 1980. Cardboard, oil. 49,5x70cm
In this work artist paid attention to infinite landscape depiction of mountains in summertime. Mountains are thought to contain divine inspiration in many forms, and are the focus of pilgrimages of transcendence and spiritual elevation. Mountains surpass ordinary humanity and extend towards the heavens. They symbolize constancy and permanence and at their peak signify the state of absolute consciousness. The visual components of color, form, line, shape, space, texture, and value in this painting works together as one story of peaceful moment next to nature.
The village at the foot of the mountains is depicted in light brush strokes.

Great Spanish painting from the second half of the 17th century. Oil on canvas artwork depicting a religious subject, Pope Innocent III confirms the Franciscan Rule, of good pictorial quality. A large, impactful painting adorned with a 19th-century carved and gilded wooden and plaster frame. Artwork that develops horizontally, ideal for placing in an important hall or study, for antique dealers and interior decorators. A painting that shows various signs of aging and old restorations (see photo), in a beautiful patina. The perspective offered by the painter is pleasant. Galante Scene Vermeer d'Utrecht Paint Oil on canvas 18th Century Flemish Old Art
Located in Riva del Garda, IT
Flemish painter of the 18th century - Follower of Jan van der Meer, called Vermeer d'Utrecht (Schoonhoven, verses 1630 - 1692)
Courtship scene at the entrance of an inn
oil on canvas, 70 x 62 cm. (with frame 80 x 72 cm.)
This pleasant genre scene, depicting a young innkeeper conversing amiably with a gentleman as she prepares to serve him wine in a glass goblet that she still holds in her hand, is inspired by the painting made in 1653 by the Dutch painter Jan van der Meer, known as Vermeer d'Utrecht, and today kept in Paris at the Louvre Museum.
Set outside an inn or a post station, the scene illustrates the theme of seduction, with the young waitress being courted by the client, a charming traveler with a changing red cloak, who tries to charm her.
Yes, it is a work that harmoniously combines the painter's Dutch origins, with the stylistic characters learned during his training in his homeland, with the Italian-like characters learned during his trip to Italy around 1655. In Rome, in particular, he met and collaborated with various authors of the Bamboccianti school, first of all Jan Miel...

ROME - In the Manner of G.Vanvitelli - Italian Landscape Oil on Canvas Painting
By Ettore Ferrante
Located in Napoli, IT
Rome - Ettore Ferrante Italia 2002 - Oil on canvas cm. 45x95
In this precious oil painting Ettore Ferrante is inspired by the views of the Dutch neutralized Italian painter Gaspar Adriaensz van Wittel, known as Casper, and known in Italy as Gaspare Vanvitelli. In particular this is a reinterpretation of the painting "View of the Tiber with Castel Sant'Angelo and San Pietro in the background" by Vanvitelli.
Taken from the left bank of the river, the view has its focal point in the circular mass of Castel Sant’Angelo, the pontifical fortress built on the central core of Hadrian's mausoleum and enriched with ramparts and patrol paths overlooking the water. In the background of the view, the Vatican basilica with the papal palaces responds to the vestiges of imperial power, while in the center the Sant'Angelo bridge, adorned with statues painted between 1669 and 1671 by Gian Lorenzo Bernini and his pupils, connects the two banks replacing the ancient Aelius bridge built by Hadrian.
No less interesting is the minor urban fabric...

French coast- 21st Century Contemporary Landscape Painting by Rutger Hiemstra
By Rutger Hiemstra
Located in Nuenen, Noord Brabant
In his studio, with large skylights, Rutger Hiemstra works on various subjects: still-lifes, portraits and, for example, large cloudy skies. In addition, he can also be found outside regularly, to make small 'plein-air' paintings.
A few hours of sitting outside and painting a beautiful painting about it, that 'can not be better', according to Hiemstra.
Rutger worked in Denmark, Switzerland, France and England, he also likes working in his own environment and is easily inspired by simple and daily 'things'. His self-tanned garden fence is also a wonderful subject. Inspiration enough, but time too short to draw and paint all the subjects that pass by.
During our introduction to these artist, at the begin of 2017, it became clear how driven Rutger is. His own compiled book of artists that inspires him and of which he carefully studies the work is always within reach in his studio. When leaving, Rutger shows how he builds up his still lifes. A self-molded table top with potatoes 'scattered' on it. This is a while, downstairs in the living room, and here and there things change. Finally, if the composition really suits him, he will paint it.
In his paintings, Rutger shows us how surprising his still-lifes, small, intimate or colorful and of great size can be. The material expression and atmosphere in the work of this artist is particularly well-suited in all formats.
In January 2018 we had a big exhibition with his works, Dutch newspaper 'NRC' wrote an article about his works with the title: Anti-Depressive medication in paint by Rutger Hiemstra, we totally agree. The works of Rutger make you smile!
The article in het NRC: Hiemstra's still life are antidepressants in paint Gallery Bonnard, Nuenen Rutger Hiemstra paints easter eggs, tompoucen or fresh mint in such a way that you think: but of course deserve a painting!
For a child, Easter eggs are sensational. To begin with, they are bigger, if you are smaller. They have a nice shape: just not round. They shine and come in festive colors. And if you wipe off the wrapper there is no real egg, but chocolate. Later you are grown up and you know those things by now. Every year around Easter they are for sale with containers. They lie in front of the house and office. Easter egg? Yes Nice. But nothing special. Until you see them painted by Rutger Hiemstra (1975). He looks childishly at all those colorful glittering unround marbles - and he knows how to share his elation with it in a still life. Hiemstra makes Easter eggs unusual again, just as he also shows tompoucing, a glass of white wine or fresh mint, a pink cake...

Strasburg. Oil on cardboard, Figurative, Architecture, Polish art
By Magdalena Spasowicz
Located in Warsaw, PL
20th century figurative landscape oil on canvas on board painting by Polish artist Magdalena Spasowicz. Artwork is in classic style, it resembles impressionism. Composition is painted with wide brush strokes. Colors are muted. Artwork depicts a cityscape of Strasburg in France.
MAGDALENA SPASOWICZ Studied painting under prof. Jan Cybis and graphic arts with prof. Tadeusz Kulisiewicz at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She received her diploma in 1953. Her works have been presented in numerous exhibitions in Poland and abroad, among others in Warsaw, London, New York, Bratislava, Washington, Moscow, Berlin, Budapest, and are to be found in private and public collections around the world. In 2017 two individual exhibition of the artists took place - at the Regional Museum in Kozienice Palace and at the Museum of Western Mazowsze in Zyrardow. Magdalena Spasowicz has been spending every single moment on painting for many years now. Most of her paintings are monochromatically coloured landscapes, of places where eye cheers soul with a sight close to heart, known and well remembered. French painting of Pissarro and Utrillo has been a very important inspiration for Magdalena Spasowicz. A desire to still-frame every moment when the artist meets Nature and beloved places is an imperative, which obliges to come back to canvas and paint, paint with a total devotion. The artistry of the places represented in the paintings of Magdalena...
