Outspoken, unapologetic, and always fabulous, London based designer Dame Zandra Rhodes is an icon of the bohemian bricolage aesthetic. By designing her own prints, Rhodes was able to create looks that are truly unique and reflective of her creative vision. With over 50 years in fashion, Rhodes’s designs have graced many issues of Vogue magazine and have been famously worn by the likes of Princess Diana, Freddie Mercury, and Diana Ross. Her pieces are highly sought after and becoming harder to find, so it’s always exciting to get a new Zandra Rhodes piece in the shop! Produced by hand in the Zandra Rhodes studio, this gorgeous 1970’s jacket top is a perfect example of Rhodes’s inimitable style. The micro pleated top features an abstract design of squiggles, loops, and lines in tiffany blue, pink, and brown on a saturated red-orange ground. The top begins with a square neckline and ruffled angel sleeves framed by a fabulous sculpted ruffle trim that extends from shoulder to shoulder. The jacket has a relaxed fit and remains elegant throughout with side slits at the waist that allow for greater ease of movement. Each slit is adorned with a beautiful knotted tiffany blue tassel, giving this jacket an oriental feeling that is further enhanced by the single button closure at the front placket. This incredibly supple black lambskin jacket was designed by Karl Lagerfeld and sold by Fred Hayman Beverly Hills, most likely in the 1990s. Fred Hayman, also known as the 'Godfather of Rodeo Drive' was took over the original Giorgio Beverly Hills in the 60s and launched the Giorgio fragrance in the early 80s. He sold the brand to Avon in the mid 80s and opened the Fred Hayman Beverly Hills boutique in 1987. Made from incredibly soft black lambskin, this jacket features large lapels and slash pockets at each hip. A single logo embossed button fastens at the top, with three hidden under the placket and three at the bottom of each sleeve. Fully-lined. Chic and sophisticated, it's so easy to style and wear for the fall and winter months. Leather clean only. Preowned/vintage with some signs of prior use and wear: we note some light color variation to the leather trim and small black Velcro squares to the back of the lapels to prevent bending; these are hard to notice unless you fold the lapels forward (and can likely be removed if desired).
