An Egyptian revival bronze wall hanging of Horus, Berlin Foundry - late 19th C
Located in London, GB
Exquisite decorative architectural element, a wall hanging of generous scale. Sand cast bronze, with old verdigris patination and painstaking detail to the composition, the scales and twin heads of Horus. The energy expressed in beautiful coiled, tensile form. Bronze castings have a long tradition in Berlin, the most renown being the Aktien-Gesellschaft Gladenbeck that operated from 1851 until 1926. Horus, a god in the form of a falcon whose right eye was the sun or morning star, representing power and quintessence, and whose left eye was the moon or evening star, representing healing. Falcon cults, which were in evidence from late predynastic times, were widespread in Egypt. This coiled serpent form is equally reminiscent of Nehebkau a primordial snake god in ancient Egyptian mythology. Ultimately considered a powerful, benevolent and protective deity, he is described as a companion of the sun god Re. Egyptian revival: Egyptian culture first enchanted the West when Cleopatra captured the hearts of legendary Romans Julius Caesar...

Two Ancient Greek Carved Marble Plaques
Located in Wormelow, Herefordshire
A pair of interesting ancient Greek style statuary marble relics or wall plaques, depicting a serpent and dove in relief. Thought to be of Greek or Italian origin, these antique wall plaques have an ancient look and feel, with wear and discolouration that offers a glimpse into their history. Perhaps they were once collector’s items, architectural fragments discovered by a traveller on their grand tour throughout Europe in the 18th to 19th century… We have conservatively estimated the date to circa 1800, these antique marble wall plaques...

French Decorative Ceramic Wall Plaque with Three Figures by Les Argonautes 1960s
By Les Argonautes
Located in London, GB
French vintage decorative ceramic wall plaque with three figures, by Les Argonautes, Vallauris, France (circa 1960s). A refreshingly naive and charming piece depicting three men in olden robes and hats. It is up to the viewer to decide who they represent. This stoneware piece is weighty and substantial and may be hung on the wall or simply allowed to lean against a vertical surface. There's no doubt it is a charming piece by a renowned pair of French ceramicists who created 'Les Argonautes' pottery studio. This piece is signed on the backside: 'Les Argonautes'. It is in good condition. Hanging string on rear. Upon request a video may be provided. About the artists: Isabelle Ferlay (Born 1917) and Frédérique Bourguet (1925-1997) set up a pottery studio together in Vallauris in the South of France which they named 'Les Argonautes'. Using the local Vallauris red...
