Early 19th Century French Pair of Glazed Terracotta Resin Dishes
Located in Labrit, Landes
Pair of resin dishes in glazed terracotta.
In the South West of France, the country named Landes was a poor country having very few natural resources, the inhabitants lived on meager harvests whose land was manured by their flocks of sheep.
The Landais also exploited the resin of the maritime pine: it was collected at the foot of the tree using a very artisanal technique which offered low yields: tapping with “crot” (from the Gascon cròt: hole). To harvest the resin, ancient resin workers dug a hole at the foot of the pine, generally between the roots, which they lined with moss. The resin obtained, if it had not crystallized on the care before arriving at the base of the pine, was full of impurities: twigs, sand, insects, and it contained very little turpentine. A first progress was to put dishes at the bottom of these holes which made it possible to collect the resin with fewer impurities,
In 1844, the resin pot...

Wilhelm Kage for Gustavsberg 5 Small Argenta Bowls and One Square
By Gustavberg, Wilhelm Kage
Located in Lège Cap Ferret, FR
Algot Wilhelm Kåge (6 March 1889 – 25 November 1960)[1] was a Swedish artist and designer, mainly known as a ceramic designer and as the artistic leader of the Gustavsberg porcelain factory.
Kåge studied decorative painting at Tekniska skolan in Stockholm and later for the painter Carl W. Wilhelmson in Gothenburg, Johan Rodhe in Copenhagen and at Plakatschule in Munich, where he learnt graphic techniques.[2]
His early career was dedicated to advertising and the production of posters, but his best known work was in ceramics, begun when he was appointed artistic leader of Gustavsberg in 1917, remaining there until 1949, when he was succeeded by Stig Lindberg. He was presented with the Prince Eugen Medal for design that same year.
The focus of Kåge's early ceramic designs, as of much of Swedish design of this period was on practical solutions to social issues, an example of which was his Praktika (1933), a simply designed and stackable set of tableware aimed at working-class families. Praktika was a commercial failure, as the intended buyers preferred more traditional and ornate products.
Kåge's most commercially successful design was the green-glazed Argenta earthenware with decorations in silver, that was produced in many shapes and with many different surface designs.
Wilhelm Kåge (1889-1960) for Gustavsberg.
Four small Argenta bowls and one square bowl in glazed ceramics.

In 1822, Henry formed his own business. Richard (1800-1884) Henry’s second son was officially made a partner in 1826. The manufactory known as H & R Daniel continued until 1846 when it ceased due to insolvency.

Antique Chinese Porcelain Kakiemon Dishe Amsterdam Bont Qing Nightingale, 18th C
Located in Amsterdam, Noord Holland
Unusual Dutch Decorated Kakiemon Style deep dish. The dish itself is a white porcelain plate from the Kangxi period, ca 1700-1720. The painting is Dutch Enamelling from ca 1710-1725. Visisble is a scene in what seems to be a garden of a pagode house depicting a Lady with a Man listening to a Nightingales singing, with a Bird Cage nearby. It's a well known example of the original version of a pattern which is used at the Bows and Chelsea factories in England in the 1750's where it is know as the 'Lady' and 'Old lady pattern' and which was also copied on oriental porcelain in Holland around 1720.
The piece is unmarked.
