A refined 19th-century hand-woven Paisley shawl from Northwest India, showcasing a sophisticated color palette of brick red, ivory, and black. Crafted in the Kashmir region, this historic textile represents the pinnacle of Indian weaving traditions and is often referred to as a "Piano Shawl" for its wide rectangular shape and decorative appeal when draped over furniture. The shawl features classic boteh (paisley) motifs that became emblematic of Kashmiri craftsmanship. These designs gained international popularity during the 1800s, particularly after Queen Victoria introduced them into royal fashion. This style inspired a wave of European imitations, notably in Paisley, Scotland—yet original Indian examples like this remain the most coveted by collectors.
