19th Century Ottoman Hand Embroidered Silk and Gilt Threads Tapestry Textile

About the Item

19th Century Ottoman silk and gold thread embroidery textile. The square textile of red cotton is decorated in elaborate silk and gold thread embroidery of arabesques, florals and scrolls enclosed by a wide gold metallic ribbon framing the whole. Created in the 19th century, even after 200 years of use the panel still has beautiful and brilliant colors and the gold threads shine under the right light. Beautiful tapestry textile to decorate the wall or displayed on a table or a bed. A Sotheby's Auction tag from October 1st of 1993 remains at one corner.     19th Century hand embroidered and hand crafted “Kashmiri Pieced Shawl” in brick red, black, yellow, and ivory Colors. This is an extremely rare shawl and is known as "Kashmiri Pieced Shawl" which is a hand embroidered and hand sewn piece to create the shawl. It is made of antique textile pieces that have carefully been sewed together to make a beautiful design. The Kashmiri shawls became an extremely fashionable item of clothing when Queen Victoria started wearing them. Most of the antique shawls known today are the “Paisley” shawls from the 1800s that used the concept and design of this original piece and were also produced in the town of Paisley, Scotland. The shawl has a paisley pattern as the border with larger paisley form on each end with a center part of the shawl woven in a blank black material. The shawls woven in Kashmir, India sometimes are also referred to as “Paisley” or “Piano” Shawls.   • 19th Century American Hand Woven Four Color Coverlet in Red, Navy, Green, Straw

    A beautiful Pennsylvania American Coverlet from the 1840s. The American Coverlet has the design of the weaver "Elizabeth Yohe" weaved in the corner of the coverlet. The American coverlets became very popular during the early to mid part of the 1800s. The Four color coverlet has a pale yellow background with alternating rows of flower heads in navy blue and red with leaves in green color. A Jacquard loom was used to hand weave the coverlet. They were made special because the weaver was able to weave the name of the person ordering the coverlet in the lower left or right hand corner of the coverlet.
