Ramp Figure, Bronze Sculpture, Black color by Modern Indian Artist "In Stock"
By K.S. Radhakrishnan
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
K.S. Radhakrishnan - Ramp Figure Bronze Sculpture H 12.25 x W 8 x D 6.5 inches K.S. Radhakrishnan working with Musui & Maiya, Musui potraits has a hand Rickshaw puller as is still prevalent in few parts of Bengal. The bronze figures are elfin, mischievous, airy, acrobatic, and archaic, delicately balancing on one hand or leg. He renders a sensuous quality to his works by deploying extraordinary body movements of his figures. Radhakrishnan is a distinctive and appealing presence on the modern Indian sculpture scene. He says: “For me bronze works best because it is strong, and brings out the character of my sculptures. Although it takes time, the process also becomes a part of my art form.” Style : K.S Radhakrishnan is one of the most notable among the new generation of sculptors. Like many of his contempories he is a figurative sculptor, but his preference for modelling and bronze casting sets him apart from the rest of them. Recharging age old sculptural processes with a new sensibility, thus is the singular challenge he brings to modern Indian sculpture. And this makes him a modernist - who approaches his work with discernible ambition and considerable aplomb while steering clear of brinkmanship. Radhakrishnan's works often drawn from the emotions and myths of the Hindu gods, such as Shiva, Kali and Radha. His sculptures are often larger than life-sized; placed in the outdoors, they evoke a superhuman atmosphere. Over the years, Radhakrishnan has experienced with alternate sculpting mediums, working in molten bronze, beeswax and Plaster of Paris. The physical process of working with the materials becomes a performance in itself. The sculpture is the product of a tactile engagement with his medium. With celebration of sensuality as one of its running themes, his works is at once both intimate and universal in its appeal. A personal commemorative sculpture, with a scale and presence that holds well in natural settings, his work has found permanent home in a number of public collections all over the world. About the Artist and his work : Born : Born 1956, Kerala. Education : 1979 : B.F.A. in Sculpture, Viswa Bharati University, Santiniketan, West Bengal 1981 : M.F.A. in Sculpture, Viswa Bharati University, Santiniketan, West Bengal. Exploration-II, Figurative Bronze & Wood by Contemporary Indian Artist-In Stock
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Subrata Paul - Exploration-II Bronze & Wood, H 29 x W 28 x D 16 inches About : Subrata Paul ( b 1972) is one of the empanelled sculptors of Abundant Art Gallery. Subrata Paul’s favoured materials are bronze embellished with wood. His signature fusion of the two different materials with his stitching style lends an unique texture to his sculptures. Our collection, includes some of his remarkable creations including “Fish”, “Goat” and “Bull”.Paul’s ‘Fish’ represents contrasting characteristics. The Buddha like drooping eyes of the ‘Fish’ is contrasted paradoxically against the frenzied fins, reminding us of Medusa’s dishevelled hair. Calmness and restlessness in one form, the ‘Fish’ resembles the life force. It is a metaphor for the inner human strength to swim against the tide of adversities. His ‘The King’ represents an imperial image. The statute is looking towards heaven, as if seeking some inspiration to perform his royal duties. His crown is like a crown of thorns. It is not a pleasant task but it has to be performed. His attire declares he has to modify his own life into the straightjacket of his royal duties. Another creation of his, ‘Bull’ recalls the interpretation of a bison of the Altamira cave paintings. Paul’s ‘Meditation’ series defines peace in different perspectives through various aspects of Buddha figures. Inspired by sculptors such as Sunil Kumar Das...

Biwi, Tempera on Board by Modern Indian Artist Lalu Prasad Shaw "In Stock"
By Lalu Prasad Shaw
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Lalu Prasad Shaw - Biwi - 21 x 15 inches Tempera on Board, 2017 Style : Known widely for his highly stylized portraits of Bengali women and couples, Lalu Prasad Shaw’s works lay the most emphasis on his subject’s physical characteristics. Capturing the expressions of his subjects perfectly with the greatest economy of line and colour each of Shaw’s paintings has an intimate feel to it. Influenced by the pre-independence Company School of art, the traditional Kalighat Pat and the Ajanta cave paintings, Shaw’s works, mainly executed in gouache or tempera, like his own person, are simple and graceful, having a very still, well-composed and smooth exterior. This senior artist draws his inspiration primarily from nature and the milieu surrounding the great Bengali middle class, often depicting pleasant and quiet scenes from his own life on his canvases and papers. His style is unique and modern in its adaptation of academic and traditional Indian formats. A particularly notable aspect of Shaw's paintings is their simple yet sophisticated look. One notices a seamless synthesis of different stylistic elements to achieve a phenomenal effect. About the Artist and his work : Born : 1937 in Bengal. Education : completed his education in fine arts at the Government College of Arts and Crafts in Kolkata. International Shows : 1970 - Second British Biennale in London; 1974 - Norwegian Print...

Euroscape -1, Mixed Media on Canvas, Red, Blue by Contemporary Artist "In Stock"
By Asit Poddar
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Asit Poddar - Euroscape - 1 - 8.5 x 8 inches (unframed size) Mixed Media on Canvas. Style : It is not enough to say that Asit Poddar is a multifaceted and greatly talented artist. Not only a gifted watercolorist, Poddar is also experienced and very well established in the fields of filmmaking, animation, photography, publishing, graphic designing and printmaking. For this artist, firsthand experience was a great source of inspiration. To look into the past - both recent and distant - is a creative process. It is this continuous flow of the past and the present that reflects richly in his paintings. In his works, you can see what he saw in his extensive travels to South Asian and European countries. You can feel the silence he felt on the mountains and revel in the world he sees through his mind's eye. His fluid lines and watercolor fills capture everything that Poddar takes in, from the vast expanse of high ominous peaks and deep dark gorges in black and white to the city of Varanasi and the river Ganges in vivid color. Human figures are missing in the paintings, but it seems like this is part of the artist's effort in his intent to leave a strong imprint in the mind of the viewer. About the Artist & his works : Education : 1980-82 : International Animation and Photography Institute, Japan 1972-77 : Government Art College, Kolkata. Selected Solo Exhibitions : 2011 : 'Mindscapes', Galerie Serafin, Vienna 2010 : 'Euroscapes', Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai 2008 : Kanishka Art Gallery, Kolkata 2007 : Educatorio della Provvidenza, Turin, Italy ; Cymroza Art Gallery, Mumbai & Chitrakoot Art Gallery, Kolkata. 2006 : Penzenau Castel, Mereno, Italy & Right Lines Art Gallery, Bangalore 2005 : Habiart, Indian Habitat Centre, New Delhi & Hacienda Gallery, Mumbai 2004 : House of Lords, London, UK & Artworld, Chennai 2003 : Hacienda Art Gallery, Mumbai ; Castella Monte, Italy & Cymroza Art Gallery, Mumbai 2002 : Chitrakoot Art Gallery, Kolkata & Right Lines Art Gallery, Bangalore 2001 : Chitrakala Parisath, Bangalore ; Habitat Centre, Delhi & Artists Centre, Mumbai 2000 : Genesis Art Gallery, Kolkata 1999 : Gallerie La-Ruche, Tokyo, Japan 1997 : Kunjeon Art Gallery, South Korea 1996 : Koga Art Museum, Ibaraki, Japan & Kunjeon Art Gallery, South Korea 1994 : Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Kolkata. Feroz Khan - Untitled Acrylic on Canvas, 36 x 48 inches About Artist : Mohammad Feroz Khan was born in 1978 and brought up in Delhi. He have not undergone any formal training in Art but gained experience first from his Father Late Mohd Ibrahim Khan, a Banner Painter. Subsequently, under the able tutelage of renowned Artist Late Manjit Bawa (Guruji - his Mentor in Art) he studied and learned Art for 14 years. Bawa took much care to train him to use brush and pastels on a variety of subjects, also guided him to savor the beauty and nuances of Texture. Then, as an initial step, his Guru guided him through a maze of depictable visuals scattered over the all too familiar places of Delhi. He asked him to draw inspiration from real life. Deferential to my master’s academic style of figuration, he soon convinced his guru of deft brushmanship and ability to create naturalistic human and animal forms, avoiding explicit linear delineation, while projecting solid masses. He chose to see the ordinary things and scenes that make up for our everyday life. He look at the little details of a tailor working on a manual sewing machine or a street-side vendor selling a cool drink on a hot summer day or rickshaw pullers or beggars and various other street vendors – denizens of the city’s poorest quarters. It is the sheer simplicity of each of these activities that appeals him and is reflected through his Canvas. Laxmi's Consort, Watercolour, Thick Imported Kartick Chandra Pyne by "In Stock"
By Kartick Chandra Pyne
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Kartick Chandra Pyne - Laxmi's Consort 19 x 14.5 inches (unframed size) Watercolour on Thick Imported Paper, 2003 ( Unframed & Delivered ) Style : After graduating from the Government College of Art and Crafts, Calcutta in 1955 Pyne began to move away from the tenets of both classical Indian and Western art to respond to the beckoning of his own artistic impulses. Landscapes fascinated him initially. But along with the world of nature and flora emerged his own reconstructed images of fauna that often signified as metaphors of human passion and energy, and his paean to the elemental magic of women. This transition may have risen from his penchant for human psychology and observing the intricacies of human behavior. An inveterate introvert, the world of workaday reality does not attract Pyne as much as lower depths of psyche and the transformed world out of his fancy. Adherents of Surrealism thought that the horrors of World War I were the culmination of the Industrial Revolution and the result of the rational mind. Consequently, however, irrational thought and dream-states were viewed as the natural antidote to those social problems. The Surrealist diagnosis of the ‘problem’ of the realism and capitalist civilisation is a restrictive overlay of false rationality, including social and academic convention, on the free functioning of the instinctual urges of the human mind. The Surrealist ethos also connected itself with the theories of Sigmund Freud who asserted that unconscious thoughts do motivate human behaviour while advocating free association and dream analysis to reveal subterranean thoughts. In the case of Pyne too, his artistic vision does not adhere to logic because he does not see with his eyes but rather through his subconscious mind -- in an act of surrender to the liberty of his dreamy vision -- with little control over the wanton caprice of his depictions. So, in this distinctive vein, he is perhaps the most seminal surrealist of the contemporary Indian art. About the Artist and his work : Born : 1937 in Calcutta, West Bengal. Education : 1955 Diploma in Fine Arts, Govt. College of Art and Craft, Calcutta. Exhibitions : 1961 : AIFACS, New Delhi. 1967, 80, 82 : Academy of Fine Arts, Calcutta. 1968-87 : Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi. 1968 : Jehangir Art exhibition, Bombay. 1979 : 100 Years of Modern Indian Art...
