Stargazers : artwork in the genre of narrative realism
Located in New York, NY
Painting by a contemporary artist Audrey Ushenko. Audrey Ushenko works in the genre of narrative realism. Her works are rich, complex figurative and still life paintings. They are stories of recurring human issues often prompted by a twisted reality. Ushenko’s earlier works where primarily mythological and allegorical. Her later works are focused on depicting human situations and interactions of people who are both living and dead. These paintings represent social situations, timeless stories and enduring issues that are rendered with a contemporary twist. Always a significant element in Ms. Ushenko’s work is her integration of Venetian Renaissance methods of paint application with Impressionist color and light theory. The combination of the old masters’ technique of glazing the canvas and carefully layered surfaces of paint enhance the luminosity of Ushenko’s work. Audrey Ushenko has exhibited her work extensively throughout the United States including several shows at Denise Bibro Fine Art, NYC; the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, IN; The National Academy of Design, NYC; University Museum, Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau...

Demonstrating an uncanny ability to capture her subject-matter, Baek’s enchanting oil paintings glitter with a gemstone-like quality that truly captivates. The material characteristics of glass are fickle, often visually elusive. Yet each work on display beautifully illustrates, in stunning, hyper-realistic detail, an array of objects, from champagne flutes to whisky tumblers. Take the large-scale painting, Rocks Glasses; here we see an assortment of vessels arranged in a triangle– refracted light dances across the intricate terrain of cut-glass crystal, resulting in an ethereal azure-tinted glow that mesmerizes the viewer. Earth, air, water, and fire are the center subjects of my art. I live in New York City-it is close to the ocean, and I’ve developed a deep affinity for the sea, which has also evoked sentiments in me for what has across on the other side of the ocean. Majestic mountains in Europe and the U.S. those I’ve seen with spectacular ridgelines or forms are what I want to pay homage to. The sky’s ever-changing atmosphere, fire’s brilliance, and all the energies embodied in nature are the most things that I am in awe of. —- Leigh Wen

Ocean without a Shore (Black)
By Do Byung-Kyu
Located in New York, NY
The medium of choice for Do Byung-Kyu, born in Cheonan, Korea, is dolls: they are both his conceptions and his physical expression. At the same time dolls are also the perfect tool for communicating the artist’s inner self. Expressing himself by means of dolls liberates Do from the restrictions of the mundane world. By embodying in the form of dolls his actions and thoughts, dreams and desires, and even the instincts lying in the depths of the subconscious, he transcends the secular boundaries. Dolls are his alter ego, his other self that he can construct precisely the way he wants. Sublimating the experiences and memories from his youth into various subjects of desire, Do uses dolls to paint a descriptive picture of the ambiguous feelings of contradictions from his childhood when he would abuse and kill a plaything, for example a frog, then bury the body in solemn mourning over its death. These sexual or violent games from his childhood are not likely to be limited to Do’s experiences alone. Most of us can vaguely remember indulging in sadistic acts of sexual love against a doll. Rising above a child’s simple curiosity, it is an intuitive game of the senses we play by ourselves. In a number of Do’s paintings, sticky liquid can be observed dripping down a doll’s face. This brings back recollections of the life inside our mothers’ womb where we were also enveloped by mucous waters, like the amniotic fluid. It refuses contact with the anything, and nothing wants to touch it either. The shape of such a mucous liquid is a protective layer sheltering the intrinsic identity and desires of man. It is also a substitution that satisfies the ego’s instincts otherwise suppressed by social norms. The dolls’ eyes...
