Union, Bold Contemporary Color Photography of Butterflies
By Roberta Fineberg
Located in New york, NY
From the transformative to the ephemeral, the birth and death of a butterfly is reimagined in a photo series on butterflies by Roberta Fineberg inspired by a poem by the 13th Century Persian poet Rumi who writes: ‘Whatever you know, or don’t - only love is real’. For Union RF explores the natural and man-made world in which two caterpillars break free of their skin for a metamorphosis. Hatching into exquisite creatures...

Beyond
By Ted Adams
Located in Hudson, NY
Listing is for UNFRAMED print. Inquire within for framing. Edition of 20. If the exhibition piece is sold or the customer orders a different print size, the photograph is produced upon purchase. Please allow two weeks for production. Shipping time depends on method of shipping. Price is subject to availability. The Robin Rice Gallery reserves the right to adjust this price depending on the current edition of the photograph. Ted Adams’ first solo show at the Robin Rice Gallery juxtaposes surrealism with the documentary art form. What differentiates Mr. Adams’ work from traditional photojournalism is his keen eye for capturing the irony in the events that unfold before our eyes. It is the found objects in everyday life to which Adams is most attuned. He creates a subtle mood and visual mystery that conveys meaning not only from the image itself but also through imagining what exists just beyond the frame. "I see photography as a way of cropping the world—selectively taking things out of context—which often results in stripping the meaning out of the original subject matter, or at least making the image open to interpretation. It’s the opposite of traditional photojournalism whose intention is to create ‘narrative’ and context rather than discard them." While he has exhibited artistic photography in a variety of genres, in the past five years he turned his artistic eye inward to reflect a more autobiographical tone. While some people compare his work to that of Robert Frank, Adams finds himself more and more influenced by Larry Clark whose career was built on pictures drawn from his own life and drug-addled friends rather than a specific documentary mission. The unique presentation of this collection of twenty-three silver gelatin prints enhances the voyeuristic sensibility of Mr. Adams’ work. Each photograph is jewel box in size, measuring 4" x 6" to invite the viewer in to make an intimate appraisal. The craftsmanship of the wide, dark wood frames hearkens back to late 19th-century Shaker design—yet the aesthetic is boldly contemporary, providing a strong backdrop to draw the viewer’s gaze directly to the subject matter. This artisanship extends to the printing where Adams exhibits his skills in traditional darkroom processes. He shoots mostly with Leica and Nikon 35mm film cameras...

Affresco di Aranci - Orange Trees
Located in Brooklyn, NY
This photograph captures the timeless beauty of an aged 18th-century Italian fresco painting. The artwork features potted orange trees, their vibrant green foliage and citrus fruits providing a striking contrast. Set against the backdrop of an expansive Italian countryside, the landscape unfolds with rolling hills and distant vistas. The significance of the orange trees in the fresco is deeply rooted in the historical context of 18th-century Italy. During this period, the cultivation of citrus fruits, including oranges, became a symbol of prosperity and luxury. Italy, with its favorable climate, was a prime location for cultivating oranges, and their presence in frescoes often represented affluence, abundance, and the beauty of the Italian landscape. Fidel Santos...

"Church Steeple" conceptual color photograph, rural landscape, abstract wall
By Phillip Buehler
Located in New York, NY
This 18"x24", signed, editioned color photograph, contrasts an image of a rural town landscape painting, against the highly textured aqua, teal, turquoise blue painted wall, which reveals a cream white underpaint layer. Time and age have created an image of beautiful decay with the cracked and peeling paint, which creates an amazing visual backdrop to the painting. The pairing of the two in this photograph compliment each other on a sensory level and bring out thoughts of nostalgia and longing. Phillip Buehler is a New York based photographer who documents the deterioration and remnants of neglected architecture constructed in the recent past. He is arguably the first to coin the neologism “modern ruins”. His photographs published in “Woody Guthrie’s Wardy Forty,” have won numerous awards, documenting the singer/songwriter/activist’s life at Greystone Park Psychiatric. He received his BA at Rutgers University and his MFA in photography at School of Visual Arts. Phillip Buehler has been featured in Art in America, The New York Times, Art News, The Art Newspaper, Wall Street Journal, American Photo Magazine, The Huffington Post, Hyperallergic, Gothamist, Art F City, The Sun, ABC, CNN, and numerous other publications. Phillip Buehler Church Steeple...

Glendale Power Station (Contemporary Photograph of an Abandoned Interior)
By Elliott Kaufman
Located in Hudson, NY
Contemporary color photograph of the interior of an abandoned power station 35 x 25 inches unframed 41.5 x 31.5 inches in white wood frame with AR non-glare glass This contemporary photograph of an abandoned theater interior was captured by New York based photographer, Elliott Kaufman, in 2005. Here the artist highlights the beautiful crumbling interior of the Glendale Power Station in Yonkers, NY. The photograph is complimented with a custom white wood frame measuring 41.5 x 31.5 inches. There is wiring on the back for installation. About the series: Elliott Kaufman conveys the haunting magnificence of forgotten buildings in the Abandoned series. Architectural marvels once home to heartbreaking operas, spectacular gatherings, or a loving family now sit vacant and linger in fading memories of the past with each new crack of paint, crumbling brick, or falling beam. Through his lens, Kaufman captures the remnants of these majestic structures, romanticizing what once was for viewers in the present day. This series won 2nd place in the ASMP National Competition. Cherries (Contemporary Still Life Study of Red Cherries in Light Box)
By David Halliday
Located in Hudson, NY
11.25 x 11.25 inches unframed Archival pigment print edition of 12 Some of David Halliday's most engaging works are those from his Box Series in which he merges classical ideas about light and composition or still lifes with contemporary experiments of fresh color. In this series an empty cookie tin becomes a tiny studio for food objects. Halliday carefully styles his photographic subjects inside and, allowing only natural light to seep in through a circular window. The results feel less like still lifes and more like intimate portraits of human sustenance. In these photographs, the fleshy curves of a fig, the slick bodies of sardines, even the homeliest porcini mushrooms possess a degree of nobility, providing a refreshing contrast to the compulsive relationship we so often have with food, reminding us to slow down and savor with gratitude. In this particular image, the bright red Bing cherries with their bright green stems are piled high into a silver goblet, gently brushed with the natural diffused light, echoing techniques associated with a Vermeer painting! About the work: The Past Still Present: A master of light, New Orleans photographer David Halliday produces lush and elegant images that are both classical and modern. Using window...
