Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hube know as Torun, was born 1927 in Malmo, Sweden. Torun was the first woman silversmith in the world to gain international recognition. She studied at Konstfack, the School of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm, beginning in 1945 while pregnant with her first child, Pia. Eventually she married the child's father, a Danish journalism student. In 1948, Torun spent the summer in Paris meeting Picasso, Braque, Matisse, and the other great artists of the day. She married a French architect and lived in Stockholm until 1956 having a second child, a son, Claude. As early as 1952, Torun exhibited her jewelry, made both in Stockholm and France (and bearing hallmarks from each country) in Paris. The length of the necklace is 18.5 inches (47 cm). The size of the smooth round beads is 14 mm.
The lapis lazuli beads are indigo, midnight tone, and highly saturated. Lapis lazuli has visible calcite and golden pyrite flecks.
Natural color, not dyed. No thermal or other mechanical treatments were used.
This necklace alternates 2mm tiny vintage seed glass Czech beads.
The necklace is fastened with a rare, unique vintage sterling silver clasp with scarab cabochon.
The scarab is an ancient symbol of vitality and new life. It was buried in the tombs of ancient Egyptians to insure they would have a new heart in the next life. It has always been a fortuitous symbol to wear and has roots in many ancient cultures. This particular specimen is a vintage German glass dating from the 1920-40 Egyptian craze that started around the unearthing of the first Egyptian tombs. The lines on the scarab are very clearly incised, and the shape of the beetle is clearly defined. The cabochon is 14 mm by 16 mm and is set in a sterling silver box clasp.
The weight of the necklace is 126.5 grams.
Lapis lazuli is a rock, which means it's an aggregate of several minerals. This ancient gem contains three minerals in varying amounts: lazurite, calcite, and pyrite.

Handcrafted layers of vacuum-formed clear, orange and yellow plexiglas pendants affixed on translucent acrylic necklace created by artist and sculptor Aaronel deRoy Gruber, circa 1970's. Two pendants measure 2 1/4" by 2 1/2" and one measures 3" by 3". They suspend from a sterling 15 1/2" choker. Overall dimensions are 13" by 5" by 1.2". Pendant is signed, Aaronel ©. Choker is stamped, Sterling. In very good, unworn 1970's condition.

Aaronel deRoy Gruber (1918-2011) was a prolific, pioneering female artist whose vibrant, volumetric Plexiglas sculptures and jewelry, and striking screenprints and canvases brought her recognition as a multifaceted modernist visionary throughout the mid-late 20th century.
