Early 20th Century Rectangular Colored Open-Work Wood Tibetan Thangka, 1920
Located in Roma, IT
Tangka in the shape of a mandala, Chinese-Tibetan origins, in hand-painted open-work wood.
The word Tangka comes from the Sanskrit for “thing that unrolls.” Here it is represented by a polychrome painting on wood depicting “The Wheel of Shiva“. Known as the Shiva Nataraja, this is one of the most famous Shiva representations.
