The color state of the Colombine plate in Pierrot and the twenty-seven plates of the French and English series were executed according to the original lithographs (before the letter for the French suite) from the Toulouse-Lautrec workshop and kept in the Cabinet des Stampes of the National Library. The collection includes three plates in color and twenty-eight plates in black. All copies also include a lithograph: Colombine à Pierrot, taken, after special authorization from the Musée d'Albi, on the original stone of Toulouse-Lautrec, by Lucien Détruit. Judging by the subject and age of the canvas this wonderful depiction of an industrial dutch port is from the 1960's. Signed lower right. Condition is good. Oil on canvas. Overall framed measurements are 23 by 27 inches. Provenance: A upstate, New York collector.
Biography artist
Jan Simon Knikker (Leiden 1911 – The Hague 1990), known as Jan, was born in Leiden in 1911. He lived and worked in Wassenaar, after that in Voorschoten until 1937 and then in The Hague. Signed with Jan Knikker jr. Son or Jan Simon Knikker sr.
He was a student at the Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague (1928-1932) and of his father Jan Knikker Sr.
He painted summer, river and winter landscapes, still lifes and cityscapes in a figurative way in the style of the Hague School. He is therefore seen as a follower of the Hague School and he worked a lot for art dealers. Abroad his cityscapes are particularly sought after.

Excerpted from the folio (translated from French), Printing of this folio was finished on April, Twenty-Four, M.CM.LII for the Éditions Raisons d'être, 2 rue des Beaux-Arts in Paris, was produced by Fernand Mourlot, based on the models of Henri Matisse. The eight original lithographs were shot on the presses of Mourlot Frères who also printed the cover and case composed by the artist. The stones were erased after drawing. The text and letrins engraved by Henri Matisse were drawn by Coulouma S.A., printer in Paris. Justification of the draw— XXX examples on large vélin d'Arches a la form, signed by the author and the artist, accompanied by a series of original lithographs numbered from I to XXX; CCC examples on vélin d'Arches a la forme numbered from XXXI to CCCXXX; XX examples of non-commerce collaborators numbered from I to XX and in addition a few nominative copies on Grand Vélin.
