Titania Lithograph, Midsummer Night's Dream, by Marion Epstein
Located in New York, NY
Marion Epstein (American, 1921-2002) Titania, 1973 Lithograph Framed: 31 1/2 x 25 x 1/2 in. Numbered, titled, signed and dated bottom For over 60 years, local artist Marion Epstein has worked through her art to bridge the personal and the political, family and career. A versatile and prolific artist, she has done sculpture, enameling, painting and photography. But it was printmaking that truly captivated her imagination. Like many artists of her generation, Epstein was powerfully influenced by the political activism of the 1960s. A member of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, Epstein recalls attending meetings out of town with her young son in tow. The anti-war movement influenced a number of her pieces. "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" echoes the sentiment of the popular anti-war folk song. This very tall print (6-by-2-1/2 feet) in tones of black, cream and ochre shows a tall woman (Marion) shielding a child, with spindly flowers drooping around them. "I didn't do abstractions," says Epstein. "I was always trying to say something." Another anti-war piece, "Generations of Thy Children," combines oil painting and collage on a bisected canvas. On the right half, a lone figure of a Vietnamese child stands forlornly on a reddish orange background. The left side of the canvas is crowded with images of soldiers, artillery and politicians. Epstein's print "Metamorphosis," completed following her participation in a civil rights march in Washington, tries to capture the changes and uncertainty in America during that time. In the background a white man looms with a questioning, almost fearful look on his face while the black youth in the foreground has his eyes downcast. Works such as "Dream Deferred" and "Aching To be Free" also represent the artist's personal reflections on the struggle for racial equality. Much of Epstein's art is a complex layering of imagery and texture, line and translucent color. In her haunting print, "Ovens and Shoes," one of several works in which she addresses the Holocaust, she makes interesting use of photographic images from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. Over a saturated black print of the death camp ovens, she has superimposed a pale ochre print of the pile of discarded shoes. Layered on top of these and centered between the arches of the ovens is the violet image of a Rodin sculpture of a man. (Bio sourced from Cleveland Jewish News, by Susan Kahn)

Young Girl Posing Beneath Chandelier, Hand Drawn Stone Lithograph, Slate Blue
By Mel Ramos
Located in Union City, NJ
Young Girl Posing Beneath Chandelier is an original hand drawn stone lithograph attributed to the American Pop artist Mel Ramos, printed by hand at Bank Street Atelier NYC (the New York branch of the renowned lithographic printshop Atelier Mourlot Paris, France) circa 1970 using opaque slate blue ink on Buff color ARCHES paper 100% acid free. Young Girl Posing Beneath Chandelier portrays a topless young girl, eyes closed, wearing a floppy hat, striking a pose on the lower portion of the composition with a silhouetted image of a chandelier positioned at the very top. Print size - 16.5 x 12 inches, Image size - 10 x 9.5 in., unframed, excellent condition, rare unsigned Printers Proof/trial proof from an unknown early edition, fine hand printed impression Historic Note on Bank Street Atelier - Bank Street Atelier was founded in 1969 by George J. Goodstadt (Fine Arts Publisher) along with Jacques Mourlot, third generation of the famous Mourlot print shop in Paris, France. Bank Street Atelier became one of the premier lithography print studios in NYC at that time and became a major graphic center, which attracted many of the Modern American Masters of the 1970’s, including Alexander Calder, Willem deKooning, Red Grooms, Al Hirschfeld, Ellsworth Kelly, Romare Bearden, Fairfield Porter, Jasper Johns, Frank Stella, Alex Katz and many more. The resulting prints were produced with the highest quality and earned a reputation in the art world for professionalism and excellence in lithographic printmaking. About the artist - Mel Ramos(1935 - 2018, California) Mel Ramos is an American Pop artist best known for his female nudes painted alongside brand logos. The artist’s coupling of women with familiar products like martini glasses and bananas serves as a commentary on the ways in which capitalism has employed the female body. “I make sure that my pictures are not too erotic and that they always have a trace of humor,” he said of his work. “I make sure they are ‘in good taste.’ Either you understand it or not.” Born on July 24, 1935 in Sacramento, CA, Ramos like Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, found inspiration through the comic books Wonder Woman and Superman growing up and later pinup posters...

By Corneille
Located in Union City, NJ
DEUX AMIES is an original hand drawn limited edition lithograph by the Dutch artist known as CORNEILLE(Guillaume van Beverloo) an abstract expressionist who co-founded the 20th Century experimental art movement CoBrA recognized for their spontaneous, rebellious style of painting that was heavily inspired by the art of children and the mentally ill. Corneille devises his colorful fantastic imagery with exotic plant forms, sensuous female bodies, animals and lively pattern design. DEUX AMIES depicts an almost birds-eye view of an interior portrait scene portraying two reclining female nudes; their light blue bodies delineated with cobalt blue details and dark blue hair posed lying on a brown and beige damask floral rug. DEUX AMIES captures the eye with its vivid colors of orange, yellow, green, and dark black purple accenting the left area of the composition with a bright blue sofa...
