Early 20th Century Shabbat Table Cover from Jerusalem
Located in New York, NY
Folk Art Shabbat table cover, Jerusalem, circa 1900.
Embroidered at the four corners with the holy places for Jews in Israel, and with the wailing wall at the center.
The Hebrew rectangular text is a traditional song sung by Jews every Friday night upon returning home from synagogue prayer. It signals the arrival of the Jewish Sabbath, welcoming the angels who accompany a person home on the eve of the Sabbath.
The words to the song translate as follows:
Peace be with you, ministering angels, messengers of the Most High,
Messengers of the King of Kings, the Holy One, Blessed be He.
Come in peace, messengers of peace, messengers of the Most High,
Messengers of the King of Kings, the Holy One, Blessed be He.
Bless me with peace, messengers of peace, messengers of the Most High,
Messengers of the King of Kings, the Holy One, Blessed be He.
Go in peace, messengers of peace, messengers of the Most High,
Messengers of the King of Kings, the Holy One, Blessed be He.
The Hebrew text around the Wailing Wall scene...

18th Century Polish Brass Hanukkah Lamp
Located in New York, NY
The backplate is cast and pierced with a central two-handled vase of flowers, flanked by fully formed birds with their heads turned outward. The side panels fitted with two servant lights, fronted by a row of eight oil fonts. Scholars theorize that these Polish Chanukah Lamps that bear two servant lights (as opposed to the singular servant light normally found on a Chanukah Lamp), served a purpose, having been used on one of the days that Chanukah fell on the Sabbath, as Sabbath Candlesticks.
For another example, see page 296 of the book “Five Centuries of Hanukkah Lamps...

Late 18th Century Earthenware Hanukkah Lamp, Djerba, Tunisia
Located in New York, NY
A rare, late 18th century earthenware Hanukkah lamp from Djerba, Tunisia. Rectangular in shape, the Hanukkah lamp is supported by two legs. The oil fonts take the form of eight small recesses, with pinched edges on one side for wicks. Apparently, a servant light (now missing) was placed in the upper part of the lamp.
This is a particularly rare and early specimen. In all likelihood, this model – undocumented in the literature – represents a missing link between the stone lamps used in North Africa and the more familiar earthenware lamps of Tunisia, which are generally glazed in a greenish hue (in similar fashion to the present lamp). But in the latter group, the oil fonts are elevated, that is, supported on top of small columns, and are similar in design to ancient earthenware...

An Early Charity Container from an Agudath Israel Convention
Located in New York, NY
This unique vintage pushka (charity box) is a rare historical piece from an Agudath Israel convention held in early 20th-century Europe, possibly near Switzerland. The design and inscriptions suggest that it was distributed to attendees as a keepsake and functional charity collection box.
The pushka is made of tin, crafted by the European company Gebr. Hoffman, which began producing tins in 1904 in Thun, Switzerland. The two halves of the box fit together seamlessly, ensuring a secure closure. One side features an embossed design resembling an early 20th-century Swiss coin, with a large "1" encircled by a laurel wreath. Below the number, a narrow slit allows for the insertion of coins, making it a practical donation container.
The reverse side of the tin bears...
