This is a marvelous house built in the 1920’s in a restrained Mediterranean style, as though it were a simple yet spacious house in the Italian countryside. The original beautiful architectural details and proportions had been compromised in a renovation, so we chose to peel back and simplify for this large modern family. A great deal of attention was paid to all the colors throughout the house—the colors needed to be subtle, just one part of the whole look and feel. We chose a classic, matte-finish limestone paint that looks wonderful combined with the new floors of wood and reclaimed terra-cotta as well as the handwoven kilim rugs of strie sisal that were used throughout. They all work together to form a beautiful but low-key background for the mixture of furnishings gathered for the house.
