Island Living: an Île Saint-Louis flat
Overlooking the Seine since the seventeenth-century, this Île St. Louis flat is a mix of it’s past lives – a bit Normand, a dash Florentine and very Parisian.
The building’s massive oak beams and cobblestone courtyard inspired the design: a modern loft in the guise of a country manor. A gut renovation allowed opening up the original maze of rooms into airy spaces throughout. With lounging, dining and an open kitchen, the front salon – formerly two parlors - looks out over the river. Double doors lead from the entry foyer directly into the main bedroom. A window-lined hall and quirky staircase bring you to more bedrooms.
Myriad textures and patterns mix with contemporary and antique furnishings throughout to achieve the 'brocante' look - seemingly collected over time.
Evening comes; city lights reflect off the water and flicker across the ceiling as they have for hundreds of years. La vie est belle
