In the portrait of the illustrious general Raimondo Montecuccoli, it can be observed that he still appears without the Order of the Golden Toson. This detail suggests that the portrait could be dated before 1664.
Raimondo Montecuccoli was a famous general and military strategist of the 17th century in the service of the Habsburg Empire. Born in 1609 in Italy, Montecuccoli fought in numerous European wars, distinguishing himself for his tactical and strategic abilities. He is best known for his victories during the Thirty Years' War and the war against the Turks. Montecuccoli is also remembered for his writings on military theory, which influenced subsequent generations of commanders. He died in 1680.
Montecuccoli came from a noble Italian family but chose to pursue a military career in the service of the Habsburg Empire. He studied in Vienna and fought in numerous battles and military campaigns, earning the trust of Emperor Leopold I.
Montecuccoli was known for his discipline, his ability to adapt to situations on the battlefield, and his skill in leading troops with cunning and determination.
Montecuccoli fought in many significant battles during the Thirty Years' War and the wars against the Turks. Some of his most famous battles include the Battle of Lens in 1648, where he achieved a decisive victory against French forces, and the Battle of Vezekény in 1664, where he defeated the Ottoman army. He faced adversaries such as the renowned French general Turenne and the great Turkish commander Kara Mustafa...

"This series of intensely colorful paintings was begun a couple of years back in reaction to the gray oppressive weight that had descended like a pall on the American scene. I wanted to make paintings about nothing but pure delight, in honor of the fact that beneath the fog of germs and political antagonism, we still eat, laugh, love and if we're wise, acknowledge how spectacularly fortunate we are -- at least for now, in this time and place, despite the problems. For me, the colors, forms and brushstrokes here feel exuberant without suggesting an unnerving chaos. I have purposely used unlikely color combinations that despite their dissonance seem to work together. Willis Seaver Adams was known for his landscapes of the Connecticut River Valley. A relative recluse for much of his artistic life, his loneliness can be seen in much of his works. Oil miniatures were the focus for almost all of his later works. He is credited with over 425 oils, watercolors, and drawings.
Willis Seaver was born in 1844 on a farm in Suffield, near the Connecticut River. He intermittently attended the Suffield Academy, and always wanted to be a painter. A wealthy doctor became his patron, and financed his studies in 1868 at the Royal Academy in Antwerp. When the doctor passed away, Adams returned home and struggled to make a living painting. After working for a photographer for three years, he opened his own studio.
Adams helped organize Cleveland's first watercolor exhibit in 1876. Soon thereafter, he completed a portrait of Rutherford B. Hayes, then governor of Ohio, prior to his becoming President of the United States. This portrait enhanced Adams notoriety.
In 1878, Adams traveled to Italy where he opened a studio in Venice, and became friendly with neighbor James Whistler. Prior to returning to Springfield, Adams lived in Florence, Italy for three years. He returned to became an instructor for the Springfield Art Association, and began to exhibit his works at the galleries of James D. Gill. His first one-man exhibit was held there in 1894. Other successful exhibitions took place in Chicago, New York, and Boston. Although his works garnered respectable prices and reflected his success, Adams felt he was due more recognition.
In 1906, he moved to Greenfield, Massachusetts and converted a barn into a studio. There, he fell into relative obscurity, accompanied mainly by his dog, Collie. In 1921, Adams passed away.
Examples of Willis Adams works can be seen at the Kent Memorial Library, the Wadsworth Atheneum, and the Suffield Academy. Several Suffield residents are thought to own Adams paintings.

Made from a real pizza nestled in its original box opened using high-chromium stainless steel, the piece measures 16" x 16" x 21", weighs approximately 80 pounds and is an Artist Proof. The artist sees his creation as a reflection of the cultural distortions represented by memes, a statement he has expressed perfectly in his reflective, yet unevenly textured, medium. "You look at your reflection [in the piece], and it's distorted in the stainless steel."
The piece was born in 2007, just as the social internet was beginning to explode out of the digital back rooms and onto the world stage under the watchful eyes of Myspace, Facebook, YouTube, Reddit, Twitter, Tumblr, and other popular platforms. But Big Sausage Pizza was conceived well before that, in the Wild West days of the internet when few truly public forums existed and media of every kind was most commonly shared via email.
In those days one never knew what to expect from a link or an attachment and each click had equal odds of either brightening your day with a dancing baby or posing a risk to your computer, your dignity, or your relationships... and that was half the fun. Every recipient of these images, videos, or audio files suddenly had the means not only to pass them along to as many people as they pleased, but to change and individualize them before sending them on. In this way, the media very quickly mutated and were distributed around the globe. In other words, they became true memes.
Pizza has evolved in much the same way. Like the internet, it started as an artifact of a specific culture, but today both are so common throughout the world that most of us can barely remember a time when they were special and exotic. Just as the internet simply IS, pizza also simply IS. We used to make pizza at home, or at least buy it in a place where they were handmade and offered a limited list of toppings. Today, the meme that is pizza is brought to our tables by an almost entirely mechanized process, and it's so wildly mutated that each individual has the ability to create a new twist on the old...
