Louis XV Chest of Drawers, France, 1770
Located in Belmont, MA
This gorgeous French Louis XV chest of drawers dates back to around 1770. It was made during the so called Transition period, the time between Louis XV and Louis XVI. It already shows the plain and stricter design of the Louis XVI period, but has still some playful marquetry decor details which draw from the more pompous Louis XV style. The three drawers commode stands on four cabriole legs with bronze sabots. Between the first and the second drawer is a decorated bronze band. This beautiful chest of drawers has its original wooden top with its veneer decor matching the decor of the front and sides. The Transition commode has been expertly refinished in our workshop. The price includes costs for the exquisite restoration and the international shipping from Europe...

Extremely Rare Pair of Regency Cast-Iron Sarcophagus Shaped Strong Boxes
Located in Benington, Herts
An extremely rare pair of Regency cast-iron sarcophagus shaped strong boxes. Regency, circa 1820 Painted to simulate palisander wood and with parcel-gilt, the cavetto-moulded hinged lids cast with flower sprays above foliate-cast bands over front panels relieved with river gods within canted corners cast with standing muses, the sides with lion mask and ring handles over leafy aprons on massive lion’s paw feet; the Brahmah type lock stamped “T. Davis from London” and impressed with the Royal Crown. These extraordinary pieces are modelled on Regency wine coolers. The forms are classic Greco-Roman revival with the boat-hook handles, mythic figures and the overall sarcophagus pattern. You would struggle to find one let alone a pair. Good items for any collection. Research on going into these strong boxes but we have found possible information on the lock stamped Davis….(historyoflocks ) The relationship of King George III and George Davis of Windsor, who was locksmith in ordinary to His Majesty. Davis, in 1799, invented and patented a unique style of lock, which was also beautifully engraved with a warning not to make duplicate keys. Sensitive government secrets always demanded, then as today, locks that were state of the art. Davis locks ended up on government dispatch boxes...

By Etienne Doirat
Located in PARIS, FR
A Regence ormolu-mounted commode by Etienne Doirat (Paris, 1675-1732) Rare and elegant commode curved on the front and on the sides, in amaranth veneer arranged in sheets in the frames. It opens with four drawers in three rows: two large and two short and asymmetrical . Rich ornamentation of chiseled and gilt bronzes: the Rococo frontal cartouche, mounts with oak leaf windings, foliated handles and clogs, rosettes on the sides. Flanders red marble top. Size: h. 35.04 inch, w. 56.69 inch, d. 33.46 inch By Etienne Doirat (1675-25 June 1732), Regency period, 18th century Although not stamped, our commode belongs by its shape and its bronze ornamentations to an identified corpus of the production of Etienne Doirat, one of the most talented cabinetmakers under the Regency. This group of chests of drawers listed in public and private collections, some of which stamped E. Doirat are characterized by the almost identical front cartouche. On our chest of drawers, this cartouche is formed by two scalloped lambrequins joined by a clip they are extended by branches with acanthus foliage and flowers with beaded friezes. Inside are two keyholes, the first with a lion's mouth, the second formed by two stylized dolphins facing each other with lion's paws under a valance. The original model was linked to index number 553, 'Commode Louis XV Figaro (Scène du Barbier de Séville) , and together the two commodes formed an integral and important part of Linke's gold-medal-winning stand at the Paris Exposition of 1900, where they flanked his most monumental work, the Grande Bibliothèque.
