Mijares had a long career which began in Cuba where be had his first exhibit in the early 1940's at the Capitolio of La Habana where he won his first prize. This important and early work that was created after he moved to Miami was purchased directly from the artist by the previous owner who was a friend of the father of the artist's host's in the United States after he fled from Cuba. This piece was professionally framed with museum quality framing by Border's, the best frame shop in South Florida. Mijares was born in Havana Cuba and died in Miami, Florida which became his adopted home after fleeing Cuba in 1968. Mijares began his artistic studies in 1936, at the School of Art of San Alejandro in Havana, where his professors included Romanach, Menocal and Valderrama.
