Set inside a carved gilt framed behind protective glass, this watercolor on paper painting was created circa 1970 and signed in the lower right corner by the artist, George Carpenter. The peaceful artwork has a simple composition with a thick forest surrounding an icy stream in the foreground. The artist method gives us an undeniable moving, impressionistic feeling. The classic style landscape is in excellent condition and has heavily pigmented colors in a blue, green and deep purple palette. George Carpenter was an impressionist painter of watercolor landscapes and exhibited in the United States, Canada, and abroad. Born on December 13, 1928 in Boston, Massachusetts, George was the son of George Gillis and Daisy Winifred Carpenter. He married Virginia Forsyth on October 14, 1966 and served in the Korean Conflict with the 82nd Airborne Unit. He moved to Ogunquit, Maine in 1966 to pursue his passion of painting. By his own count he estimated prior to his death that he had created 18,000 pieces of art while living there and operating his studio in Perkins Cove...
