HEART II - is a unique, hand colored lithograph with pastel drawing by the pop culture icon - Peter Max. The image Heart II was printed in 1981 as a limited edition lithograph of 165, using traditional hand lithography techniques on archival paper. HEART II has a background color comprised of a printed "rainbow roll" blending of yellow and turquoise ink; a printed black ink brushwork drawing of a free-form heart shape is the central focus. Using pastel crayons, Peter Max personally hand colored the printed heart using warm and cool red shadings and accent colors of cobalt blue and black. HEART II is a very unique, one-of-a-kind, hand embellished mixed media artwork expressing joy with its brightly colored heart design creating an energetic yet simple form and visually pleasing symbol of love. Print size - 30 x 22 in., unframed, very good condition, hand signed in black pastel crayon by Peter Max on lower image, dated 1981, with personal dedication. He is well known for his leading role in the psychedelic art of the hippie generation. About the artist - German/American artist: b. 1937, Peter Max spent his childhood in Shanghai. From China, the family went to Tibet for a year, and then on to Israel. Peter Max's family's odyssey continued to Paris, and finally, at the age of 16, Max arrived in the United States. Peter Max began his art studies in New York at the Art Student's League and continued at the Pratt Institute and School of Visual Arts. Peter Max, recognized throughout the world and a well-known name in America, is famous for his new age style, cosmic imagery and multi-colored blends. During the late 1960's and early 70's, Peter Max's colorful award winning art reached millions of people. Peter Max's paintings, drawings, sculpture and limited edition graphics have been exhibited in major museums throughout the world. American icons, especially the Statue of Liberty, appear repeatedly in his art repertoire. Returning to the public art scene in the ‘80s, Max’s American imagery became dramatic, expressing his appreciation of America’s freedoms and creative spirit.
