Le Grand Ordinaire is an original modern very rare book illustrated by Oscar Dominguez (San Cristóbal de La Laguna, 1906 – 1957) and written by André Thirion (1907 – 2001) in 1943, during the nazi occupation of France.
Edition clandestine published by Eric Losfeld, Paris.
Second Edition.

Oscar Dominguez (San Cristóbal de La Laguna, 1906 – 1957). Óscar M. Domínguez (San Cristóbal de La Laguna, 1906 – 1957) was a Spanish surrealist painter. Domínguez spent his youth with his grandmother in Tacoronte and devoted himself to painting at a young age after suffering a serious illness which affected his growth and caused a progressive deformation of his facial bone frame and limbs. He went to Paris at 21 where he first worked for his father in the central market of Les Halles, and spent his nights diving in cabarets. He then frequented some art schools, and visited galleries and museums. He was rapidly attracted by avant-garde painters, notably Yves Tanguy and Pablo Picasso, whose influences were visible in his first works. At 25 he painted a self-portrait full of premonition as he showed himself with a deformed hand and with the veins of his arm cut. He chose to kill himself 27 years later by cutting his veins. In 1933 Domínguez met André Breton, a theoretician of Surrealism, and Paul Éluard, known as the poet of this movement, and took part a year later in the Surrealist exhibition held in Copenhagen and those of London and Tenerife in 1936.
André Thirion (1907 – 2001). He was a French writer, a member of the group of surrealists, a theorist and political activist. His work is divided into two groups: the first consists of autobiographical works; The other of political and erotic novels. Révolutionnaires sans revolution is the main work of the first group. It is an autobiography that relates this period and analyzes the group of surrealists.

Óscar Domínguez
Óscar Domínguez was an abstract, Surrealist artist who popularized the decalcomania technique of layering thin sheets of gouache on paper and then applying it to canvas. He practiced Surrealist automatism, which was used prominently by early 20th-century Dadaists. In a trance-like state, the artist becomes a conduit through which uninhibited, raw thoughts can flow through a paintbrush, pen or other tool. The result is the uncanny imagery of the subconscious mind realized in paintings and sculptures.
Domínguez was interested in art at a young age, due in part to the acromegaly disease that kept him from more physical pursuits. He found solace and freedom in creative expression. He spent his youth on the Spanish island of Tenerife in the Canary Islands, raised by his grandmother. At 21, Domínguez moved to Paris, France. He worked for his father’s fruit export business by day. At night, he frequented cabarets and immersed himself in the culture. He also avidly visited museums and attended classes at different art schools. He became enamored with the works of Spanish artist Pablo Picasso and French painter Yves Tanguy, which influenced his early paintings and drawings.
Domínguez had his first solo show in 1933 at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Tenerife. His work is in the permanent collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Bilbao Fine Art Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Domínguez’s paintings and sculptures influenced artists like Max Ernst and Hans Bellmer.

Raymond Georges Yves Tanguy (January 5, 1900 – January 15, 1955), known as just Yves Tanguy, was a French surrealist painter. Tanguy's paintings have a unique, immediately recognizable style of nonrepresentational surrealism. They show vast, abstract landscapes, mostly in a tightly limited palette of colors, only occasionally showing flashes of contrasting color accents. Typically, these alien landscapes are populated with various abstract shapes, sometimes angular and sharp as shards of glass, sometimes with an intriguingly organic look to them, like giant amoebae suddenly turned to stone.
Benjamin Péret (Rezé, July 4, 1899 - Paris, September 18, 1959); he was a French poet. Alongside Breton he was among the most important and influential protagonists of the surrealist movement.
