About the Item

The painting is corresponding most closely to the first photo on the 1stdibs page A professional photographer took this photo in his studio with good lighting. The other photos were all taken with natural light and normal camera. The painting looks different from a distance than it does up close. The first photo at 1stdibs corresponds to the painting looked at from distance. The colors that predominate are different shades of ultramarine mixed with roasted umber, white and Neapolitan yellow Agnieszka Korejba studied painting and drawing at the Art Academy Gdańsk 2002-2007. In 2007 she graduated in painting by Prof. Teresa Miszkin and Prof. Roman Gajewski. She realizes: painting, drawing, lithography, object painting. In her native country, Poland has repeatedly been involved in the social sphere, for example in the context of artistic workshops for children from problem families or art projects for children with intellectual disabilities. The artist paints in oil on canvas. Her works are often interplay of figurative and abstract. "I do not plan my pictures, they just happen," she says. "I search on the canvas for my motives " The artist has had numerous exhibitions in Poland, Germany, Austria and abroad. The first phase is CANVAS RECORD. I try to fill the painting with my impressions and moods by sketching various themes. This stage lasts until the canvas is "full", which means it has its desired content. In the second phase, ARCHEOLOGY of CANVAS, I look for new solutions for the canvas developed in the first phase, I disturb the message, come back to its past and I face it. Sometimes I apply over the entire work a neutral layer of paint, some mixture of natural minerals, oil color and a binder, which can be observed in ” Guten Morgen, Guten Abend” diptych . When these layers are dry I start so called "Openings". I scrape an individual layer of color off the painting surface by means of a small chisel, forming the first relief on the entire image. Sometimes I adopt a more drastic approach to my work and I scrape huge parts of layers off the painting, leaving only fragments of previous layers, which can be noticed in the painting entitled„Golden Fluss”. The colors I discover in this process determine the color selection in the final phase. Phase Three - TOTAL RETOUCH is the final stage. I use conservation technique, however I do not complement the elements of the old composition but rather focus on color and the mood. I use a small, no.1 brush. I work every day, for many hours, like in trance until everything is merged and saturated. Every painting, which is created in this way is a new discovery and challenge for me. Every one is unique and requires different approach, time and energy. The process of creating every single painting is a very deep and powerful experience for me. Thanks to it, I learn humbleness and love for what I do. You have risen from the process and to process you shall return. Agnieszka Korejba
