About the Item
Oil on Alu-Dibond, 80 x 200 cm.
German artist Doris Marten explores the visual effects created by the harmony between light and color. Lines and the light are the main components of her paintings. But in the Light'n'Lines series, the raw material is time, crucial to the development of the work. The parallel lines which constitute the painting, all identical, personify the temporal dimensions (past, present, future) during the creative process. Continually exploring the possibilities of color, the artist bestows a metaphysical dimension on her works.

Doris Marten
Doris Marten’s paintings explore the perception of colours and their mutual influence, immersing the viewer in an abstract geometric world. She uses lines that reveal colours individually and bring to life the effects of their juxtapositions. The artist has developed a thorough knowledge of colours which allows her to create optical illusions, impressions of movement and intense variations of light. From the beginning of the 2000’s, her work has been regularly exhibited in Germany and elsewhere in the world (United States, Europe). Two of her works have been included in the German Bundestag collection. “Time is a material that is necessary to create my paintings. Line by line, they are created in a concentrated process that has much in common with the activity of writing or even telling a story.’’

Untitled: Blue Linear Abstract on Green
By Allen Kubach
Located in New York, NY
Allen Kubach (American) "Untitled: Blue Linear Abstract on Green" , Oil on Canvas, Monogram signed on rear canvas, Late 20th Century, 1997
Colors: Blue and Green
Allen Kubach and Marjorie Shaw Kubach were two married artists who explored their artistic styles together throughout their careers. The artists showed their works largely throughout New Jersey and New York, sometimes joining together for the same exhibits. The works that Detour Gallery has acquired are representative of the pair’s time in which they explored abstraction. These works were made in a postwar era, following the art world’s shifted focus on New York as the center for new modern art. Art at this time was evolving, and the experimentation of abstract expressionism, geometric abstraction, and minimalism evidently paved the path for later artists such as Allen and Marjorie. As noted in the New York Times by Vivian Reynor, Allen Kubach “specializes in strong colors, expressing them in vertical and diagonal grids laid one on top of another.” In such a manner, Allan reflects these contemporary ideals that were taking New York by storm in the 1960’s and 70’s. The linear focus and non objective use of color found in Allen’s work correlates to that of the pioneers of abstract and minimalistic work such as Sol Le Witt...

Code Green Blue II - Textured Geometric Abstract Painting
By Petra Rös-Nickel
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Petra Rös-Nickel’s original paintings merge playful forms, bright colors, and architectural compositions in oil and mixed media on canvas. Her contemporary artworks contain rich textures and patterns, referencing popular European textile designs of the fifties and sixties. Rös-Nickel’s work translates the geometric and organic elements of an era that hoisted the flags of modernism and which, due to a trend to return to a rather retro style, has become topical once more.
This 66-inch high by 39-inch wide contemporary oil painting on canvas is wired and ready to hang. This artwork is double wired and may be installed vertically or horizontally. The sides of this artwork are painted and it does not require framing. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable U.S. and global shipping are available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included.
Petra was born 1963 in Wathlingen near Celle, Germany, and breaks completely new ground with her abstract forms of painting and expression. After studying fashion design at the professional school for clothing in Bremen, 1980, Petra Rös-Nickel changed her field of study to architecture in Eckernförde, 1982. She now lives in Hamburg, Germany. Preferring the creative aspects of the studies to the technical ones, the artist developed the basics of her painting, never denying the roots of applied design and soon ending in a refreshing, distinctive style.
Petra Rös-Nickel experiments with form, along with the use of a technique that draws attention to the processes used in creating a painting. Essential is the color space presented in multiple layers that offers the beholder access to more profound color planes. These details, scratchings, and rubbings lead to various elements of tension, such as “patchwork” or harmonious-contemplative forms (“windows”) and “oscillating lines”.
Rös-Nickel's modernist paintings develop an energetic impact on the space they‘re displayed in, conveying her joy of life and self-confidence. Her abstract geometric textured...

Ogham - Green striped abstract painting
By Mark Zimmermann
Located in East Quogue, NY
Green abstract striped painting by Mark Zimmermann- Acrylic and graphite on canvas in artist frame. Signed on back by the artist.
Mark Zimmermann's work is based on the fusion of meditative fields, architectonic structures and an organic gestural line that is one-part intentional and one-part accidental. Zimmermann clearly demonstrates his deftness of hand though labored bands of color, building and editing one band upon other, until the editing process renders compositions that combine both hard-edge and action-painting abstraction.
In discussing this work, the editor and writer, Larry Qualls noted,“...a majestic landscape narrative... they illuminate the nature of painting itself. In a sense what these paintings do is bring a synthesis of the conceptual and the realistic; it is as if there is the conflux of two grand traditions: the purely abstract and the purely objective.”
Mark Zimmermann has exhibited his paintings across the United States and abroad. His work is held in private and public collections such as JW Marriott Essex House...
