About the Item

Title: Untitled Artist: Isabel Baquedano (1929–2018) Medium: Oil on canvas mounted on board Dimensions: 44.9 x 44.9 in (114 x 114 cm) Estimated date: 1970s–1980s Signature: Not visible on front; name inscribed on the back Condition: Excellent Description and Critical Assessment This large-format abstract work by Isabel Baquedano, executed in oil on canvas mounted on board, reflects a period of profound formal refinement in her career. The earthy palette — dominated by soft browns and deep greens — enhances the symbolic weight of the simplified, totemic shapes that suggest human figures suspended in silence and introspection. Space and stillness are not just compositional tools here — they are the very subject. Baquedano’s visual language in this piece is reminiscent of Paul Klee’s poetic abstraction, Mark Rothko’s spiritual color fields, and Ellsworth Kelly’s minimalist purity. However, it is imbued with a distinctly Spanish and feminine sensibility rooted in mysticism, memory, and the sacred. Figures are stripped to their essence — curved silhouettes, geometric suggestions — caught between presence and absence. There’s a subtle tension between the recognizable and the symbolic, much like Giacometti’s slender figures or De Chirico’s metaphysical spaces, but here reduced to an almost liturgical silence. Artist Biography: Isabel Baquedano Isabel Baquedano Elvira (Mendavia, Navarre, 1929 – Madrid, 2018) was a pivotal Spanish painter of the 20th century. Trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid, she became a leading figure of the Pamplona School and a long-time drawing professor. Her work evolved from social realism to spiritual abstraction, characterized by restraint, mystery, and a poetic minimalism. She participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, and her works are housed in prestigious institutions such as the Museo Reina Sofía, the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum, and the Museum of Navarre. In 2019, a major retrospective titled “Of Beauty and the Sacred” cemented her legacy in Spanish contemporary art. International Parallels This painting aligns closely with the aesthetics of major international figures such as: Paul Klee – for his poetic simplification and intuitive symbolism Mark Rothko – for using color fields to express emotional and spiritual states Ellsworth Kelly – for minimalism and shape as content Eduardo Chillida – for his engagement with space, form, and silence Why It’s a Bargain — and an Excellent Investment A work of this scale, visual strength, and historical importance by Isabel Baquedano is exceedingly rare in the market. Since her passing in 2018, critical and institutional interest in her work has surged. The 2019 retrospective was a turning point, and collectors have begun to take notice. Smaller works have already reached €7,000–12,000 in auction settings, and prices are expected to rise significantly as her recognition spreads internationally. This particular piece is not just a visually stunning acquisition — it is an undervalued asset with high growth potential. Compared to similar abstract and symbolic works by international artists whose paintings sell for $50,000–100,000 or more, this is a true sleeper in the market. It’s a museum-quality piece at a collector’s price.

Antoni Pitxot Battle of Constantine oil on board painting surrealist art
By Antoni Pitxot
Located in Barcelona, Barcelona
Title: Battle of Constantine Artist: Antoni Pitxot i Soler (1934–2015) Technique: Oil on board Dimensions (unframed): 9 x 12.6 in Dimensions (framed): 17.3 x 20.9 in Signature: Signed in the lower right corner Period: Second half of the 20th century Provenance: Galeria d’Art Àmbit, Barcelona Description Battle of Constantine is a symbolic and fragmented composition that showcases the dreamlike world so characteristic of Antoni Pitxot. Through an array of rock-like, anthropomorphic forms, the artist constructs a mythical and dramatic landscape that suggests an epic confrontation. The vivid pink sky and tactile textures reinforce the visual tension, evoking ruins, bodies, and reliefs that seem to emerge directly from the earth. In this piece, Pitxot applies his meticulous technique and unmistakable visual language, where ambiguity is a tool for the viewer's imagination. The boundary between figure and landscape blurs, creating a poetic vision that feels both ancient and surreal. About the Artist Antoni Pitxot i Soler (1934–2015) was a prominent Catalan painter born in Figueres, Girona, into a family with a long artistic tradition. He spent much of his life in Cadaqués, where he developed a highly personal style centered on compositions of stone-like forms that resemble human and animal figures, blending nature with mythology and memory. Pitxot was a close friend and collaborator of Salvador Dalí. Their artistic connection led to Pitxot playing a key role in the creation of the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres, where he later served as the museum's lifelong director. After Dalí’s death...

Cape Maneuver bullfighter oil painting
Located in Barcelona, Barcelona
Title: Cape Maneuver Artist: José María Tuser Vázquez (Barcelona, 1919 – 1986) Technique: Oil on canvas mounted on board Dimensions: 19.7 x 23.6 in (50 x 60 cm) Date: Circa 1980s Signature: Signed "Tuser" in the lower left corner Condition: Excellent; thick, vibrant brushwork and vivid colors well preserved. 📝 Description This painting captures a dramatic moment in the bullfight — the classic verónica — as the matador gracefully halts the bull’s charge with a sweeping motion of the cape. The vivid contrast of magentas, blues, and golds intensifies the theatrical tension between man and beast. The composition is dynamic yet controlled, emphasizing the poise of the torero against the raw force of the bull. The expressive brushstrokes and thick impasto enhance the sense of movement, while the abstracted background ensures focus remains on the central figures. The piece is a striking blend of figuration and emotional energy, characteristic of Tuser’s taurine works. 👤 About the Artist: José María Tuser Vázquez José María Tuser Vázquez was a Spanish painter born in Barcelona in 1919. He studied at the Barcelona School of Arts and Crafts and began exhibiting in the 1940s. By 1947, he had fully devoted his career to bullfighting scenes, developing a distinctive figurative expressionist style with impressionist influences. He collaborated with the magazine El Ruedo, creating numerous illustrations and covers, and designed collectible postcards for Editorial Artigas. His work became well-known in Spanish artistic circles and is now part of both private and institutional collections, including the Club Taurino of London. His paintings have been auctioned internationally, reaching up to $3,000 depending on size and subject. His legacy is that of a painter who masterfully captured the emotion, tradition, and drama of the Spanish corrida. 🎨 Similar Artists José María Tuser Vázquez’s work shares thematic and stylistic elements with: Roberto Domingo – A pioneer of bullfighting art...

First one, GUCCI in wonderland, is an inspiration that came to John Paul Fauves after doing a 10 piece collection of some Alessandro Michele art campaigns. There was so much magic realism in the GUCCI brand and concept that transcended from being a clothing label to something more surreal. It is here when the artist decides to give a hold to his new collection for 2018 named "holy exit" and dive into this new world of colors and wonders. The second part, Alice in Wonderland, represents the artist a world of fantasy and dreams. It seems as if the author Lewis Caroll could write like a dream. The same concept of surrealism is what FAUVES feels about Gucci design and branding. It as if Gucci can design and create form the world of dreams, and this is what the artist wants to represent in his art GUCCI in wonderland. ABOUT John Paul FAUVES: John Paul Fauves (born in 1980) is a contemporary Artist from Costa Rica . His artistic journey started at a very young age after he became a student of Joaquin Rodriguez del Paso , one of the most important Costa Rican modern art tutors. In his paintings he engages questions of identity as they relate to art history as well as our everyday interactions with mainstream culture and social media.
