About the Item

Jane Sangerman lives and works in New York City. She received her BFA from the University of New Mexico and her MFA from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She has had one and two person shows in New York City and Chicago and exhibited nationally and internationally. Forms lifted from New York’s crumbling walls and aging grid systems create the template through which one views ambiguous space and time. Some images are inspired by the shapes of twisted and gnarled metal or random organic contours created as indigent tiles and peeling paint fall and from decaying surfaces from York City. Sangerman's artwork exists in two worlds; a tangible, entropic, urban environment where the walls are and a vibrant metaphysical world that I create. Many works imbue red or orange, invoking the color of blood, fire, energy and danger. Frames divide the work similar to that of movie stills where each frame represents not only different points in space but also different points in time. The addition of fingerprints appear in the images forming a human made mark pointing to the physical world. Floating shapes reference cells in several pieces. Her physical involvement in the process which includes layering stratifying, some combination of spray paint, acrylic wash, acrylic mediums, oil paint, wax, collage and linoleum prints on her surfaces. In addition to teaching art at Ramapo College her experience also comprises various visiting artist and guest lecture opportunities including the Parsons School of Design at The American School in Paris, The Glasgow School of Art, The University at Buffalo Anderson Gallery and most recently in 2014, and The University of Northern Arizona. Jane received a Fellowship at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, The Ucross Foundation, and The Constance Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts, The Jerome Foundation Fellowship and the Illinois Painters Three Award. Her artwork is part of more than 25 public collections including the New York City Public Library and The Brooklyn Museum.

Minimalist, mixed media on panel by Patrick Berran, Untitled
Located in White Plains, NY
'Untitled' 2013 by American artist Patrick Berran. Mixed media on panel, 14 x 11 in. This work encapsulates Berran's signature use of geometric forms. The minimalist image features a pyramid form oscillating in an enclosed space outlined by a square. A dramatic dimensional work with layered “screens” of color in light blue and black colors. Patrick Berran’s practice relies on the transformation of visual materials though a process of constant experimentation and recycling. The artist employs various transfer techniques to evolve his original source material into abstract forms, revealing the subtle textures embedded within their surfaces. The resulting patterns have become Berran’s signature form, which he transcribes, layer upon layer, into his painted compositions. Throughout his work, frames and deconstructed grids punctuate his dense patterning to create a frenetic rhythmic quality aligned with the fast-paced and stripped-down audio experience of punk rock music. Patrick Berran lives and works in New York, NY. He received his BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2002 and his MFA from Hunter College, New York in 2006. He has had solo exhibitions at HUNTER / WHITFIELD, London; White Columns, New York; and Chapter NY. His work has been included in group shows at Rod Bianco, Oslo; M+B Gallery, Los Angeles; Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art, Indianapolis; and Gavin Brown...

Untitled (Spray Painting 3) : contemporary abstract work of art
Located in New York, NY
Abstract geometric artwork by a contemporary artist Gerald Wolfe. Gerald Wolfe’s wall pieces have a three-dimensional, architectural feel. The artist’s approach to his paintings is intuitive. He meticulously creates his works step by step, imbuing shapes and lines with energy. The interplay of forms, color, and texture creates tension between flatness and depth. His work can become a unique gift and will be a wonderful addition to any space, be it a living room of a modern home or a lobby of a commercial building. Gerald Wolfe received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the University of Maryland in 1972, discovered his interest in art and went on to study fine arts at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. In the summer of 1974, he also studied at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine. From his first show in 1979, a summer invitational at OK Harris Gallery, Gerald has shown his work on a consistent basis in New York, including such galleries as Denise Bibro Fine Art, NYC, and Kim Foster Gallery, NYC . In addition, he has had solo exhibits at the Paterson Museum in Paterson, New Jersey...
