Joy Taylor’s botanical still lifes capture imaginary subjects. Her fabricated florals are dictated by two basic tenets: scale it up, for a more detailed view of the composition; and simplify, for greater clarity of form. The end result is a denial of depth and a refusal of perspective. Graphic and vibrantly toned petals, leaves, and stems sprawl across one other, creating the experience of a bouquet without the form of one. Joy Taylor’s work has been exhibited at Galerie Gris, Hudson, NY, Imogen Holloway Gallery, Saugerties, NY, and the Berkshire Botanical Garden, Stockbridge, MA. Her work has been commissioned by the MTA Arts for Transit Program for multiple public transit stations. Joy Taylor lives and works in Red Hook, New York.
