Sandrine Kern's water lillies is a joyful, gestural interpretation of a tranquil pond adorned with water lilies. A separate and beloved series from previous works, the lyrical brush strokes and dramatic color palettes are freer and more figurative. Kern's practice combines oil sticks, oil paint, and cold wax to create a creamy, rich surface with subtle textured layers to portray the large-scale, zoomed-in water scenes. Sandrine Kern was born in Paris, France where she received an MFA from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts.
