About the Item
This painting is from my series titled “Convergence.” This captivating series explores the concept of deconstruction through a unique interplay of lines and color. Rather than relying on negative space, these works highlight specific areas within each composition using linear marks. Each painting begins with a bold and vibrant underlayer of freely mixed paint. The lines act as an emphasis, directing the viewer's attention to particular fragments of the painting, while the occasional use of negative space provides a contrasting balance. Convergence invites viewers to engage in an intricate dance of color and form, where the surface transforms into a rich tapestry of visual elements, dynamically revealed and intricately connected through line and structure.
An exploration of beauty and energy, Tabing’s paintings are a visual representation of the dichotomy between reality and his simplified interpretation of that indescribable noun reality. Concealing as much as they reveal, Lloyds paintings intertwine gestural marks, textures and fields of color that lure you in, tempting one to get lost in thought and emotion. His reactionary process combined with his use of deliberate, bold brushstrokes create both an uncomplicated and powerful painting. Extreme emotion, simplicity and controlled chaos is a common thread that can be found throughout Lloyd’s works. A self- proclaimed perfectionist, Lloyd says that being self-taught has allowed for his uninhibited and pure style of painting. Lloyd leaves his heart and soul on every painting. This relatively reserved painter enjoys speaking with people about his art but would rather allow the paintings to speak for themselves, reveling feelings and emotions that he says he could never put into words.

Influenced by artists of such varying styles as Caravaggio, Rembrandt, De Kooning and Jack Levine, as well as many of the German Neo-Expressionists*, Dan Howard's work often blurs the line between representational* and abstract art*. His experimentation with different canvas preparations, his use of intense colors and his expressive brush strokes have created a myriad of visual combinations in his characteristic larger-sized oil paintings. Throughout his career, Howard has been both a dedicated art teacher-administrator and a gifted professional artist. He chaired the departments of art at Arkansas State University, Kansas State University and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Howard has received 100 prizes, awards and honors including the top awards in the three longest running national open painting competitions: Society of Four Arts, Palm Beach, Fla.; Butler Institute, Youngstown, Ohio; and Chautauqua Institution, New York.
