Marit Geraldine Bostad
Marit Geraldine Bostad is an abstract colorist. She earned her bachelor’s degree in art direction in Oslo in 1997. She works and lives in Horten in Vestfold County, Norway, and her studio is at an old naval base, where she finds most of her work inspiration — in the middle of great nature and historical buildings.
Bostad's paintings carry an emotionally charged impetus. Describing her practice as a kind of therapy and a way to switch off her mind, her feelings about her work are highlighted by their lasting impression on the viewer. Her abstract paintings are influenced by memories and people, whose essence she intuitively attempts to preserve on the canvas. Richly colored and textured, incorporating layer upon layer of acrylic paint, the canvases are imbued with a fresh, youthful approach, positivity and invigorating color palette.

- Acrylic monotype, Catherine Howe, 'Silk Monotype 2'By Catherine HoweLocated in Scarsdale, NY'Silk Monotype 2' 2020 by New York artist, Catherine Howe. Acrylic monotype on semi sheer habotai silk, 48 x 36 in. Applied with sweeping, fluid brushstrokes, Howe's monotypes have a strong, vibrant energy and a sensuous sensibility. Referencing her personal garden located in the Hudson Valley, the floras dissolve into abstract flurries of brush marks and fields of commingled colors in varying shades of black, white, and silver. Balancing abstraction with representation, the artist’s gestural paintings are process-based while retaining an affinity with the observed subject matter. Catherine Howe is widely admired for her painterly works that are an amalgam of materials that reference both the baroque and nature. Drawing from nature, Howe’s paintings are influenced by New York School abstraction, as well as rococo and 17th century Dutch still life paintings. Howe received an MFA from SUNY Buffalo in 1983. Howe’s paintings have been exhibited extensively in New York, and the United States, including solo exhibitions at Madelyn Jordon Fine Art, New York Academy of Art, Winston Wächter...Category
