About the Item
"in City and in Forest 29" explores the assimilation of aerosol painting, pyrography and sanding techniques on wood. The artist engages her work with notions of repetition, graffiti and blur derived from the pictorial works of artists Jack Whitten, Sterling Ruby and Gerhard Richter. This dark ethereal painting with jewel-tone accents solicits our visual perception by suggesting a discoverable lattice; sfumato motifs seem to emerge out of an optically intricate and textured grid. Artists that come to mind when viewing Melisa's work include Agnes Martin, Gerhard Richter, Sterling Ruby, Jack Whitten, Julian Stanczak, Garth Weiser, and Frank Stella. This piece is lightly varnished with clean natural wood edges and comes ready to hang, horizontal or vertical.
Keywords: pyrography, sanding, materiality, electric tools, soft, blurred, complex, hard-edged, dynamism, line, form and color, multilayered, Multichromatic, geometry, grid, atmospheric, optical, Abstract, Minimalism, Modern, Abstract Expressionism, Spray Paint, Acrylic, Wood, stencil, op art, contemporary gestural abstraction , stripes, repetition, linear grid, painting, chance, serial formalism, gradients, pixelated, visual perception, process-oriented, burnt and charred, dark colors
About the artist:
In Melisa Taylor’s work, the natural world acts as blueprint while ideas are sourced from historical art and contemporary culture. She pursued studies in Marine Biology before training in classical art of the Old Masters. She grew fascinated by the works of Flemish painters Vermeer and Rembrandt whose symbolic use of light influences her practice up to this day. Melisa explores the notion of the sublime through blur and precision. She develops an aesthetic of duality by hybridizing divergent approaches to art. Her studio practice is labor-intensive; various instruments and electric tools are used out-of-context to inject unpredictability in the painting gesture. She has assimilated in her practice an eclectic multilayering process combining pyrography, sanding and detailed stencil compositions on wood. Wabi-sabi -embracing chance- is a central idea in her work, equally so is meticulous control. This results in a subterranean tension that jeopardizes the ethereal appearance of her pieces; arbitrariness and mechanical execution fuse to create what she calls "systèmes faillibles" where spectral motifs seek to emerge out of obscuring lattices. Her work has been exhibited internationally and acquired in private and corporate collections across North America and abroad.

Acrylic Painting on wood Panel Titled “Aurora”
By William Finlayson Jr.
Located in West Palm Beach, FL
Born in Tallahasee Fl, William started his artistic career as a color consultant for his family's Design and Painting company that took on constant projects of custom painted interiors and decorating. This work of 20 yrs lead him to his fascination with textiles and paint, along with custom furniture. After creating and selling dozens of unique pieces of furniture, here began his transition from wall, to wood on furniture, to canvas. Painting on canvas was the culmination of his creative outlet. William feels that his lack of formal training in Fine Art has afforded him a freedom to paint what he envisions and feels, rather than conform to specific style or genre that he feels is limiting.
Inspired by hard edge abstraction and color field art such as Kenneth Noland, Joseph Albers, Gene Davis, Frank Stella, Anne Truitt, Imi knobel...
