About the Item

Nancy is inspired by the works of Carmen Herrera, Deborah Zlotzky and Grazia Varisco. Nancy Talero is an artist and designer whose multi-panel works challenge convention by breaking the confinement of the traditional rectangular frame. For TURNING POINT, Nancy created a series of works titled Bending the Rules. Each piece is a set of painted, solid wood panels that juxtapose clean lines with raw texture, precise geometry with uncontrived nature, the synthetic with the organic. The painted shapes play with our sense of depth, dimension and perspective. A dialogue is created between the solid geometric shapes and the organic grain of the poplar panels, the negative space created between the spaced panel, as well as corresponding angles and objects within the interior in which it is placed. Born and based in Atlanta, Nancy has a BA in Studio Art, drawing and sculpture from Washington and Lee University. She studied art history and figure drawing in Florence, Italy. She is also a graduate of Portfolio Center with a degree in graphic design.

EQUIVALENCE 95 - Acrylic on Linen - Purple, Orange Abstract Geometric Painting
By Linda King Ferguson
Located in Signal Mountain, TN
This painting by Linda King Ferguson is part of her equivalence series, which began as a feminist project; works that subvert the historically male gaze and a material language speaking of gendered concerns. The diamond shaped canvas is primarily a brown cardboard color, with two circles dominating the center of the composition. Stacked vertically, the topmost circle is a light lavender color, and the lower circle is a creamy, salmon orange. Two cuts have been made in the canvas on either side of the center, where the edges of the two circles meet. Her color choices first came from Helen Molesworth’s essay, Painting With Ambivalence, published in WACK! Art of the Feminist Revolution. The Essay includes a large reproduction of Mary Heilmann’s 1979 painting...
