About the Item

How to understand Sigita Daugule's work? At the cradle of her style (emerged in late 90s) there are significant memories of the expansion of modern art with its uprising against classical culture and against man as a whole mayor. The criteria of modernism are abstract concepts, abstract emotions, and the order set by chaos. Sigita Daugule's painting has closely merged with these criteria, but not only with them. It also merges with the dynamics of postmodernism – with those fragments of classics, larger or smaller, which floating slowly through the cultural space and spreading their energy, particularly tempting since the 70s. Postmodern situation determines the composite essence of Daugule's paintings – they contain both classical elements, such as color harmony, narrative and imaginative plots, and are modernistic, with typical too self-sufficient, too ambitious masses of colors and strokes, that create abstract dramas. Sigita Daugule paints as an agent of chaos theory, who provokes "deep" color dramas. And "deep" here must be understood literally, because it happens not like a cultural drama of color harmony that shakes taste, as it is, let’s say, in expressionism, but rather the chemical collisions of paint on canvas. Varnishes and solutions are applied on oil paints that converts them beyond recognition. It sounds and also resembles alchemy. Sigita Daugule Member of the Artist's Union of Latvia since 1998. Composition 1001, 2018., 100x100 cm
Located in Riga, LV
Composition 1001, 2018., 100x100 cm Abstract composition. Nugzar Avtandilovich Kahiani was born in Poti, Georgia in 1952. He studied at the Art College named after Nikoladze. Then he went to serve in the Soviet Army from1970 to 1972. After completing his military service he entered the Stieglitz St. Petersburg State Academy of Art and Industry at the faculty of artistic metal, from which he graduated in 1986. During his studies, he has been actively engaged in painting. His favorite artists are Gauguin, El Greco, Botticelli, Turner and Picasso. Works of artistic stone He worked also with stone, cornelian and onyx. But his soul gravitated to bright and blustery color, and so he has became engaged in painting. At first his paintings were quiet, with muted tonal gamma. The color image was built on the play of hues and halftones. Such a careful elaboration of color educates the taste, sharpness and delicacy of vision. Gradually, the painter became more experienced, and his paintings acquired assurance and power of maturity, blooming in colorful brilliancy. Nugzar's color preferences The color of Nugzar’s paintings is deep and multi-layered. It is woven of infinite number of hues and filled with light. At first sight it may be difficult to recognize the shapes in the play of flickering color dabs. The figures appear gradually, they draw the first breath just before our eyes, crystallizing from the color heap. The painter is attracted by major tonality and motives that years ago could be called “the gallant feasts” - repasts, assiduities, music parties, and airings. After somewhat daemonic, infernal imagery of early paintings, it has appeared the theme of “Le joie de vivre,” the joy of life. Source of inspiration Born in the ancient Kolkhida, he keeps the blissful pagan feel of entirety and completeness of being. It is embodied almost literally in his favorite personage auroral gorgeous-bodied beauty of a girl. He grants these forms even to Olympian inhabitants - Aphrodite, Athene, Arthemide, let alone the Bacchants. I remember unwittingly that Niko Pirosmani similarly painted on his impoverished buckrams the luxurious prince repasts and languid, elephantine beauties. Working style But his style is not bounded by grotesque parody, as well as the irony is not the only aspect of his world outlook. In his landscapes we can catch the ecstatic admiration with Nature. In contradistinction to his favorite impressionists, he never paints from nature and never bears in mind the particular place. It is just a blooming Earth, studied very closely, so that the trees are cut by the edges of the painting, and at the same time it is a bird’s eye view revealing infinite, boundless spaces. Nougzar says that the landscape for him is first of all a color ensemble. He can just leaf through the illustrated journal, nourishing his eye with color in various combinations, and so get the impulse to create a ‘physical’ landscape image. Probably, his landscapes are no less fantastical than his figure compositions, but such is his talent, his mission - to make the world more beautiful and gentle than it is in reality. In the middle of the road
By Dana Frankfort
Located in Houston, TX
Dana Frankfort In the middle of the road, 2017 oil on canvas over panel 48 x 48 x 1.75 inches For over two decades, Dana Frankfort has explored the vexing periphery between language and sight by painting words. Rather than laying claim to the paintings, controlling their semiotic pulse, her words serve as the formal armature; they prop up, ventilate, and allow the many layers of paint to breathe. Imperatives, allusions, evocations—the words dissolve into a palimpsest of obscured serifs and stems, into color and form. The title of the work is a phrase from a poem by Carlos Drummond de Andrade’s “In the Middle of Road.” Here it is, translated from the Portuguese by Elizabeth Bishop...

Tapas Ghosal - Untitled - 12 x 12 inches ( unframed size) ) Acrylic on Canvas , 2022 *** Framed ( packing : complimentary; shipping cost would need to be extra) Style : In Hindu philosophy, the 'Antahkaran' refers to the totality of two levels of mind , namely the Buddhi, the intellect or higher mind, and the Manas, the middle levels of mind which exist as or include the mental body. It refers to the entire psychological process, including mind and emotions. Ghoshal’s paintings weaves an Antahkaran, creating structural spaces, sometimes meditative & melancholic in nature. His contemplative mind, enters into the inner realm of reality, dissects it and extracts a kind of mystic silence. The extant contemplative in wardress in him got charged with meditative spirituality through his association with this heritage city. Benaras, started flowing in his canvasses both through landscapes and human faces. Since 1995-96 his Benaras paintings started transforming. Initially his landscapes contained reflection of naturalness transformed through melancholic chiaroscuro. Gradually the naturalness started disintegrating into expressionistic structures. At a certain stage during 2004-05 some of these structures yielded into abstractions shedding all the links with naturalness. Then again the sign-symbols integrated into geometrical structures reflecting traces of original locations. About the Artist and his works : Born : Born in 1965. Tapas spent his childhood and early youth in the quiet idyllic environment of rural Bengal. The soothing lyrical landscape and the intrinsic mythical past within the rural life made a great impact in his inner being, which aroused in him love for beauty, spiritual in nature, making him contemplative and inward looking.
