About the Item

Teresa Vallejos, passionate abstract expressionist painter from Southern California, has been an artist all of her life. She is the daughter of an LA artist and art collector who sourced pieces from all over Latin America before his passing in the late 1980’s. She draws much of her inspiration from the pieces he left behind and the bi-national geography and culture from where she is deeply rooted – California, New Mexico and Northern Mexico. Finding a calming balance between earth tones and vibrant colors she uses different techniques and mediums to create harmony and rhythm on canvas or wood panels. Her highly visual mind makes her hyper attuned to spaces and allows her to visualize abstract concepts and color palettes. She never starts a painting with a concrete plan as she is moved by emotions as the abstract piece takes on a life of its own. The canvas or wood panel in parallel transform into what feels like to her like a literal sculpture and puzzle to be solved. Teresa is also a life-long advocate of mental health – being that her father died by suicide she has spent much of her teen and adult life absorbing and implementing techniques to always keep the joy and light her father once lost in her own life. This joy and light is translated onto the canvas always as she hopes to bring these positive uplifting emotions into peoples hearts and homes through her work.
