About the Item

"Breath Mandala #5" 16" x 16" inch by Tetiana Kalivoshko Mixed media collage THE SPRING WAR COLLECTION Finding light and hope during time of war and despair is the message Tetiana Kalivoshko’s Spring War Collection is meant to send to those affected by the atrocities experienced in almost a decade lasting conflict in Ukraine. This fight, now resulting is senseless destruction, fear and loss of life is a reminder to the global community of the insurmountable suffering wars bring as they pop up around the world. Tetiana would like to send a message of hope, strength and a vision of prosperous future through her art, replacing devastation and rebellion with new growth; plants and flowers that sprout in the light of spring. The images of the Spring War collection represent a metaphor of nature’s cycle in Kalivoshko’s native country Ukraine where spring brings back the vivid happy colors of plants and flowers the cold winter kills and buries under the heavy snow. The spatial placement of the images in the collection brings out the clean lines and symmetrical design, displaying a play of hearts and flowers with war planes, grenades, gas masks and guns in a way that blurs the savagery and jollity implied by these articles with the final look suggesting that love and beauty prevails. ABOUT THE ARTIST: Tetiana Kalivoshko is an American-based Ukrainian artist who specializes in painting, sculpture, and art installations. Graduated from the L’viv National Academy of Art and Shanghai's East China Normal University. Angie Drakopoulos, Element1, 2 2018, Acrylic On Print, 11 x 14 Framed
By Angie Drakopoulos
Located in Darien, CT
Using symmetry as a basis, Drakopoulos derives structure by combining elements from the natural world and science. Modifying these elements digitally, Drakopoulos distills into a pattern or shape, and then layers them with a different structure and repeats the process of layering paint in resin. She tries to find the most subtle and interesting way to connect the different layers that will reveal an underlying structure or system. Slowly as the work evolves, these inner-connections and details begin to form and define the energy and invisible forces that govern the movement of matter, from the microcosmic level of molecules and light particles, to the macrocosmic of planets and galaxies. Drakopoulos views the cosmos as a primordial, all encompassing field within which the illusion of matter is created and dissolved. In this field, particles come together to create complex structures and matter evolves into its maximum state of order. This moment is temporary, a state of transition. The form will subsequently dissolve and the process will begin again. The central images that appear in her work describe this moment of emergence. They are not a representation of actual cosmic phenomena but rather an invented image of an inner mindscape. When attention is directed to the infinite vast field, which contains all of existence in potential, the holographic matrix of the universe is revealed, of which our consciousness is an interwoven part. Angie Drakopoulos is an artist who lives and works in New York City. Her work has been exhibited in various galleries including: ODETTA, McKenzie Fine Art, Southampton Art Center, Paris Koh Fine Arts, Smack Mellon, New York Hall of Science, Feature, G-module, Holland Tunnel...
