ZURA (Georgian-American, 1969)
Mongol, 2023
Acrylic on wood
49 x 24 in. (124 x 61 cm)
A powerful and evocative acrylic on wood by Zura, this 49×24 in work is a singular testament to his abstract-figurative vocabulary. The elongated panel pulses with layered color, bold gesture, and cultural resonance—suggesting Mongolian heritage and land, without prescribing a narrative. Represented by Twelve Chairs Gallery and includes certificate of authenticity.
Visual & Formal Qualities
Striking vertical format: This elongated panel emphasizes the subject with resonance and monumentality while remaining visually intimate.
Rich acrylic presence: Bold, fluid strokes merge with layered textures, inviting both close inspection and overall visual impact.
Organic balance: The composition embodies both robust structure and painterly fluidity, playing with form and negative space.
Concept & Interpretation
Evocative title: Mongol conjures associations with the vast landscapes, nomadic history, or cultural motifs of Mongolia, without depicting literal narrative—leaning instead on evocative resonance.
Expressive abstraction: While abstract, the painting hints at features—perhaps ancestral or symbolic—enabling viewers to engage on both an emotional and interpretive level.
Spiritual undertones: Through color harmony and gestural eloquence, Zura channels the spirit of place, heritage, and raw, natural energy.
Ideal for Collectors
A compelling choice for collectors who seek:
Emotionally resonant, abstracted works grounded in cultural memory.
Vertical-format pieces that command space and mood in a gallery setting.
Paintings that interweave formal painterly methods with evocative themes.

ZURA (Georgian-American, b. 1969) Central to Zura’s artistic vision is the human form, often intertwined with animal heads—a compelling exploration of the primal instincts within human nature. His work captivates with its raw emotion, symbolic depth, and refined execution. In the spring of 2022, he captivated audiences during an exhibition in Williamsburg, unveiling a striking new series of works. Zura is a world-renowned artist celebrated for his powerful sculptures and paintings. His works grace public spaces across New York City, Atlanta, Georgia, and Connecticut, and are held in distinguished private collections, including that of American hedge fund manager Victor Niederhoffer. Born in the Republic of Georgia, Zura spent 14 years developing his craft before formally studying at the State Academy of Fine Art. He now lives and works in Brooklyn, where his Williamsburg studio serves as both a creative sanctuary and a teaching space, where he shares his expertise through sculpting classes. Zura remains deeply committed to his practice, guided by a philosophy rooted in beauty, love, and harmony.
